This is what I have read about GM's new All Electric Vehicle (EV) announcement. GM is planning to produce more EV in next few years. I do not think Hybrid is over so along as car manufacturers keep producing EV at higher prices.
I think at least for next few years, companies will try to push more autonomous driving and safety features. That will determine the winners and looses.
