今日、歯医者に行った際、受付の方に残金の支払いについて支払いを求められた。「なんの金か」との質問をしました。調査の結果、前回の歯のクリーニング（2回分）に関するものだと説明され、「歯のクリーニングは保険でカバーされないのか？」と尋ねると、保険が適用されなかったため自己負担が必要だと言われました。私が「保険がきかないなら、事前に知りたかった」と伝えると、「保険の適用は予測できないし、自己負担が必要なら払ってもらうしかない」との回答がありました。これに対し、「保険がわからないなら、来なかったのに」と不快感を表明すると、「保険の適用は私たちの判断ではない」との一言で、最終的には「分かった、さようなら」と言って歯医者を出ました。その日のアポイントは当然キャンセル。
この歯医者自体は嫌いではないが、受付の対応や話し方には不満があります。後になってこの歯医者の別の人からの電話があり、誤解があったことを謝罪されましたが、遺恨が残ります。お客（私がどれだけ大切かは分からないが）をこんな些細なことで失ってしまうのは非常にもったいないと感じました。お客様へのコミュニケーションや対応の仕方が本当にビジネスにおいて重要であることを改めて痛感しました。
