The sun set again today at 8:50 PM. When the sun set over the Olympic Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, at the same time shining almost directly over the Japanese archipelago,it’s 50 minutes past midday in Japan.
Or it may be covered by thick clouds of the rainy season sky in Japan.
The sun's blessings on the West Coast of the United States are being enjoyed by the Japanese islands 16 hours later.
However, things are complicated by the presence of a man-made date line in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. While the time difference between Seattle and Japan is about 16 hours, Japan is ahead of us.
In the past, I used this 16-hour time difference between Japan and the U.S. to enjoy two Sunday morning services in both countries.
I attended the Sunday morning worship and fallowed lunch fellowship in Japan and left from Narita after 4:00 pm.
I arrived in Seattle at about 7:00 a.m. the next morning.
I then hurriedly typed and printed out the weekly church bulletin for that day, and I still had to attend the 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning service.
After the double blessing, I was grateful to have this kind of blessing a few times a year.
Time flies, and now I am able to attend church in Japan at the same time as in Japan even though I am in Seattle.
Many churches have started to broadcast the live worship broadcast due to the corona disaster.
Just before sunset today, I attended a service at my home church in Yokohama.
Pastor K., a childhood friend of mine, interceded with a sermon from the 12th chapter of Hebrews.
He said, "Our life is like a marathon, a long run, and sometimes our perseverance is challenged. Just as there is no race without a finish line, the Bible is clear that at the end of our lives the goal is there. It teaches us a certain thing.
A glorious goal that cannot be described by words awaits us, we should not lose courage to see the one whom we should focus on.
This was the message I needed in the midst of this ordeal of corona disaster.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,Hebrews 12:28
After yesterday's owners' zoom meeting, a member sent the following email to all members.
“Never give up on life, always have hope no matter how you are, and if you're persistent, you won’t miss your flight. Many times we were lucky enough to catch our flight. The Issei who were forced to intern camps often said,
What a waste,
Endure,
Can’t help to do that.
In addition, as a new Issei, I would like to say "never give up", no matter what happens.”
The stay-home policy continues, some members income were so limited until a half amounts, even to nothing.
These words of encouragement were powerful to us.
About 80 years ago, after the outbreak of war between Japan and the United States, Japanese immigrants were forced to leave all their fortunes and carry only two suitcases with them. They were forced to move to the camps.
They were forced to abandon all the fields which had cultivated before, their houses, and all kinds of businesses for a few years in order to live in the gulag.
What a waste.
Endure it.
Can’t help it.
These were their words of chastity, they said.
When the war ended, they started up their lives again from nothing.
Compared to that predicament, we are still blessed.
Our predecessors did not give up in the midst of all that. They wanted to go on, not giving up, believing that the way out was open somewhere.
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
1 Corinthians 10:13
A diamond gives off a bewitching beautiful shinning because of its intricate polyhedral cut.
The skyrocketing cost of medical care in the United States reminded me of the negative aspects as the capitalism society we have ended up in.
There is one of COSTCO's strongest cosmetic products. It is a whole roasted chicken that can be purchased for just over four dollars. It's only 500 yen, which is one coin.
Since the whole family can enjoy a full meal of chicken, I think it is the most affordable COSTCO product.
When I went to Cosco today, I also bought this.
The man who was standing in line right in front of me only bought the chicken.
The sunset itself wasn't visible at all today, but the clouds were still shining in a brilliant reddish-brown color, and I could see a beautiful sunset sky.
The Apostle Paul, who preached Christianity to the European world, had a great physical handicap. Whether it was a disease or a disability, we do not know for sure. He prayed many times to God to take away his physical handicap, but God gave him an unexpected answer. He said that you can remain at that handicap. It is in that weakness that we can find extraordinary strength coming from Him.
We want to dress our lives up in every aspect with only good things. But there will be certain aspects of our lives that we don't know about and that have a negative one. However it is in those areas that appear negative that God's grace and power work.
“because of these surpassingly great revelations. Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. ” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
2 Cor. 12:7-9
Watching the sun set from my usual perch, I felt even more like I was back in Seattle.
I didn't have to fight sleepiness to get back during the three-hour drive from Poland. .
I was pretty tired from last day's full day of hiking, but after about 10 hours of sleep that night. I was able to completely regain my energy.
The kids, on the other hand, had dinner in Portland last night and then headed home later that night.
I was the only one who stayed one more night.
I always get sleepy on the way back to Portland after working. I would fight it with a slap on the cheek and take a nap in the rest area on the way home!
I listen to the lecture while driving, but it sounds like a lullaby and I can barely get into the lecture.
This time I was able to enjoy the lecture and learn without getting drowsy.
There was not a cloud to block the sunset in Seattle tonight, the sun wheel itself was just sinking into the Olympic mountains.
We could see about God, by the way, about man, about man's afterlife, and about the world of God's government that will eventually come only vaguely for many years.
However, about the 2000 years ago, through Christ’s cross, his resurrection and his ascension, a clear revelation was given to us.
Until then, it was only made known to us within the confines of what the prophets told us in his dreams and visions, etc. But through the words of Christ Himself and through the letters left by the twelve apostles who were exposed to His teachings, there are twenty-seven books left as the New Testament Bible that the Spirit of God has shown certainly of these facts.
The words of this Bible clearly and unambiguously state that these were eternal mysteries before, but now It clearly tells us something very important about ourselves.
“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.“
Hebrews 1:1-3
This morning, Akemi's alarm went off loudly at 5am and kept going as snoozing function a lot of times. After we made it through, we all sprung up at 6:00am.
I rarely get up this early in the morning, but I have to risk my life for the sake of play. LOL.
The trek took less than two hours each way.
Maybe because it's still early in the morning, the chirping of the birds is soothing as it echoes around us.
We found an pool and Akemi jumped there first fearlessly.
My kids repeatedly jumped into the pool, but once was enough for me. The water is so cold that my feet go numb after more than 10 seconds in the water. However, the emerald color of the water is very beautiful and impressive.
We also tried the slider, which is a slide with a clear stream running down the rock face. At the end of the slider, we fall into the pool of the waterfall, but the water was deep enough to enjoy it without injuring our feet.
We enjoyed a summer vacation for a while.
"This is the day that the Lord has established. Let us enjoy and rejoice in this day."
Let me also share a picture and a video sent to me by my daughter. Apparently the kids were spotting a salamander while I was napping by the river, that I've never seen. I would have loved to see this precious animal.
I attended a regular Seattle owner's meeting at Zoom today.
We voiced our concerns about the swelling number of corona cases in the US these days.
And I asked about the cost of being hospitalized and treated as an infected person.
Because someone asked me a question the other day and I couldn't answer it. As I suspected, there is no public support at all, and if each of us does not have health insurance, it is almost impossible to pay for the cost of treatment. The amount is impossible to pay.
A person who was hospitalized for months with serious symptoms in the early days of the U.S. corona scourge has been charged about $100 million.
The usual cost of a normal hospital stay is about $5,000 (¥550,000) per day. When it comes to treatment in the intensive care unit, it's $15,000 (¥1.6 million) per session.
One of our member was in the hospital for 48 hours at the time of delivery and the bill cost $2,500. That was a natural birth, so if you want to inject a narcotic into the spine, you would be charged more.
So, even if I contracted the corona, I wouldn't be hospitalized. If it gets too serious and I have to be hospitalized, I'll have to commit seppuku on the spot.
People in Japan can't believe the cost of medical care in the US, can’t you?
My family once had a family member who was sick in a rural town in Japan. Since it was a Saturday, the main doctor wasn't there and said that there would be a special charge added to the cost. The lady doctor who gave treatment repeatedly told me that she was sorry that the medical bills would be increased.
It was about an hour or so, but when I saw the bill, I was beaten out of my mind. It was only a few decades dollars.
I took my phone out during the meeting at Zoom and went to my usual high ground.
This beautiful sunset can be seen in Japan as well.
When my family arrived at the hotel, we went to play table tennis in the multi-purpose room.
There were a few guests in this hotel, but I didn't see anyone anywhere because everyone was avoiding contact with other people.
Thanks to this, that multi-purpose room is a monopoly in our house.
I thought I was an expert when I joined the table tennis club for one months in junior high school, but I played against my children and it was almost an even match. Where did they learn to play table tennis?
They returned the ball properly and the rally continued.
Then we went out to the huge soccer field next to the hotel. I ran with my son from one end of the field to the other, I gave up after 4 times and he ran alone after that.
In Oregon, these several soccer fields are so packed with people on weekends that kids and adults alike are playing the game. However, it's still restricted to play any outdoor sports, of course indoors, in Washington state.
This time last year, my son was exhausted at a few games in every week, and now he's not allowed even to practice with his team. He said ruefully that he was missing playing soccer in his last High school season.
The low probability of a young teenager getting infected with coronavirus.
Even if they are infected, the odds of them becoming seriously ill are low.
There are tens of thousands of new cases a day in the U.S. every day, according to reports, and I have ever heard of that young children becoming seriously ill.
And even if someone were positive virus carrier playing in an outdoor sport that isn't even crowded, the chances of getting infected are even lower. Hmmm.
I always thought the United States was a country that could make a more rational decision, but this overly restrictive policy just makes me shake my head.
Well, the kids plan to get up at 6:00 a.m. tomorrow to go hiking. We've had our evening meal and we're going to rest early.
But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”
Joshua 24:15
No matter what decisions or policies the people around us may make regarding the coronation disaster, if you respect that, and live within your ability to do so and find enjoyment in it, that should be good.
Even though Joshua once said that his fellow Israelites had forgotten their God and run to idols, He clearly states his stance on himself and his family.
