数日前の娘の問いかけ。
宮崎駿作の映画をこのところ見続けていて、その映画音楽に魅せられたらしい。
16〜 7年前にタコマでお会いした女性のことを思い出した。
この方は日本人でありながら流暢な英語で三味線を教えていらっしゃる。
連絡をとると、70代の年齢ながらも現役で教えていらっしゃると言う。
本日、娘とともにそのタコマにあるアカデミーにお邪魔した。
圧倒的な熱量を持った女性で、娘はたちまちにして虜にされたもよう。
三味線ばかりでなく、着付けや日本舞踊も教えてらっしゃるとのことで、そのクラスも受講することに。
これらのクラスは全て日本の伝統的な礼儀作法に則って教えられると言うもの。
「あの家に入った途端、日本に帰ってきたような感じがしたわ」とは、娘の印象。
今後は1時間余りを師匠の前で正座をしながら三味線の稽古に励む小さな撫子さん、がんばってね。
娘はその情熱をかける音楽・芸術を発見したようで、その喜びを爆発してるところを見て、厚いコロナの黒雲に閉ざされた隙間から漏れ出た光のように感じた。
この日はもちろん1日中雨で暗い雲に照らされた日中。
日の入りの時間にふと窓の外を見ると、オレンジ色の光が街路を照らしていた。
もしやと思って高台に出てみると、地平線辺りにだけ割れたような雲が連なり、そこでは光のページェントが織り成していた。

This was my daughter's question a few days ago.
She had been watching Hayao Miyazaki's movies for a while now and was fascinated by his music.
It reminded me of a woman I met in Tacoma sixteen or seven years ago.
She is Japanese and teaches shamisen in fluent English.
When I contacted her, she told me that she was in her 70s and still teaching.
Today, my daughter and I visited her at his academy in Tacoma.
She is an overwhelmingly passionate woman, and my daughter was immediately captivated by her.
I was told that she teaches not only shamisen, but also kimono dressing and Japanese dance, so we decided to take those classes as well.
All of these classes are taught in accordance with traditional Japanese etiquette.
As soon as we entered the house, my daughter felt like being back in Japan, that was my daughter's impression.
From now on, the little Natsuko will spend an hour or so sitting on the floor holding her knees in front of the master while practicing the shamisen.
I felt like a light leaking out from a gap closed by a thick corona black cloud when I saw her exploding with joy as she seemed to have discovered the music and art to which she is so passionate.
It was, of course, raining all day and the day was lit up by dark clouds.
At sunset, I looked out the window and saw an orange light illuminating the street.
I wondered if it was possible, so I went up to the high ground and saw that there was a pageant of light weaving through the clouds that seemed to break only around the horizon area.

サンフランシスコのベイエリア一帯は5つの郡(カウンティー)で今日からロックダウンが再開されました。すべての小売店は基本的に閉鎖が義務付けられ、レストランはテイクアウトのみが許されます。現在のところは、新年の明けまでの継続期間とされていますが、今後延長される可能性もあります。
このところ米国で急激にパンデミックが広がってきたことに対する緊急措置です。
私の住んでいるワシントン州ではロックダウンは免れているものの、引き続き建物許容
人数25%以下が義務付けられた制限内に置かれています。
これからクリスマスに向けて、小売店は一年で最も売り上げが期待できる掻き入れ時なのです。
それがゼロになるという事態に向き合わざるをえなくなりました。
小生も本日からサクラメントとサンフランシスコ行きを予定しており、すでに航空券、レンタカー、ホテルなどを予約していました。
当地に行ったとして、すべての店がクローズされていたら、食事さえもできないことになります。
Pricelineというサイトを通じてホテルやレンタカーを予約したのですが、そこでは良いディールを与えてくれる代わりに、どんなことがあっても変更やキャンセルは認められないと謳っています。
昨夜そのpricelineに連絡し、カルフォルニア知事の突然のロックダウン宣言で、やむなく計画を変更せざるを得ない旨を伝えました。すると、その担当者は電話口で私を待たせたまま、予約していたホテルと直接交渉したのちに、キャンセルを認めてくれたのです。
翌月のホテル予約まで含めて、3つのホテルと1つのレンタカー全てがキャンセル扱いとなりました。
パンデミックと言う非常事態に、通常ではありえない対応をしてくれたカスタマーサービスに感動しました。同時に経済的な損失からの開放感を味わいました。
今回の緊急ロックダウンで、全ての小売店の方々に、同様な解放と救済の道が開かれますように。

Now The San Francisco Bay Area is in a five-county (county) lockdown that resumed today.
All retail stores are essentially mandated to close and restaurants will only be allowed to take out. Currently, the lockdown lasts until the dawn of the New Year, but it may be extended in the future.
This is an emergency measure in response to the recent rapid spread of the pandemic in the United States.
In my home state of Washington, the lockdown has been spared, but buildings will continue to be less than 25% of the number of permitted people is placed within the mandated limit.
From now on, the Christmas season is the time of year when retailers can expect to make the most sales in the year.
We are now forced to face the prospect of zero sales.
I'm going to Sacramento and San Francisco today, and I've already booked flights, car rentals, hotels, etc.
If I go there and all the stores are closed, I won't even be able to eat.
I booked my hotel and car rental through a site called Priceline, which claims to not allow changes or cancellations under any circumstances, in exchange for giving me a good deal.
I contacted the priceline last night and told them I had to change my plans due to the California governor's sudden declaration of lockdown. He kept me waiting on the phone and after negotiating directly with my hotel, he granted me the cancellation.
All three hotels and one rental car were cancelled, including my hotel reservation for the following month.
I was very impressed with the customer service, which was unusual for a pandemic emergency situation. At the same time, I experienced a sense of relief from the financial damage.
May this emergency lockdown pave the way for similar liberation and relief for all retailers.

(結論)
暗い曇り空に閉ざされる時に、私たちの気分は滅入る。
気分と信仰とを混線してはならない。
天地の法則を知り、先人の結末から学び、主を見上げて前進しよう。
今日もシアトルは快晴です。
明日から毎日雨の通常天候に戻ると聞いて今日の1日、太陽の恵みを満喫しました。
今日もワシントン湖にて寒中水泳。
入水した直後の尋常でない冷たさに、
それとしばらくは水中で呼吸ができない苦しさに「俺はなんてバカなことをしてるんだ」と悔いるのですが、水から上がった直後の爽快感には何物にも変えがたいものがあります。
たとえ湖に氷が浮いていてもジャンプしたんではないかと思います。
知らんけど。
もちろんこんなことが出来るのも、焚き火が用意されているからです。
その後はランチに娘が準備してくれたヴィーガンスープ。
Turmeric と言い名のスパイスを初体験。
なんとも香ばしい風味です。
今後私が自作するヴィーガンスープのためにと、１瓶を贈ってくれる優しさ。
最近子供たちの日本語が上達するにつれて、
私たちの食事評価方法も変わりました。
これまでは「ミドルクラス・アッパークラス」ですが、
数日前から以下のような日本語4段階評定に。
「まだまだね」
「もうちょっとね」
「いいね」
「魔女」
彼らによると、昨夜の私のスパゲティー・ディナーでは「いいね」、
本日の娘のヴィーガンスープ・ランチはさらに高評価の「魔女」だそうです。
ランチの後は日本語のお勉強会。
この日は、今週90歳の誕生日を迎えた日本にいるおばあちゃんに、日本語の誕生カードを書きました。息子は初めて自分の名前を漢字で書きました。
今日の1日を感謝します。
"私はあなたに感謝します。
あなたが私に答え私の救いとなられたからです。
家を建てる者たちが捨てた石それが要の石となった。

上の聖書の御言葉を今日の私の1日に適用してみます。
①生きていてもう神は、私の祈りに答えてくださった。
②それは主イエスと言う人物を通して神に至ったもので、成就した救いである。
③この主イエスは、ローマ人からもユダヤ人からも捨てられ、十字架で死を遂げられた。
④それはまるで建築家が価値のない土台石を捨てるかのような放棄であった。
⑤多くの人に踏みにじられ捨てられたその人物が、少数のある人々にとって最高の贈り物となった。
⑥これはまるで不思議なことである。神の計画は人間の目には常に想像を超えるものである。
⑦雨の日も晴れの日も、時代の趨勢がどのように移り変わっても、この主にあって今日の1日を楽しみ喜ぶことができる。
It's another sunny day in Seattle.
I heard that the weather will return to normal with rain every day starting tomorrow, so I enjoyed the sunshine all day today.
Today, I went for another cold swim at Lake Washington.
I felt an uncommon coldness right after entering the water.
That and the agony of not being able to breathe under water for a while makes me regret "what a fool I am," but the exhilaration you feel right after you get out of the water is irreplaceable.
Even if there was ice floating on the lake, I think I would have jumped into.
I don't know.
Of course, the reason I can do this is because we have a bonfire ready to go.

Today, the weather was unbelievably clear, as it was yesterday. I did not want to waste this precious time, so I dared to swim in the cold as I had announced yesterday.

今日はシアトルの空がありえない位に晴れ渡りました。まるで雲ひとつない東京の冬の空のようです。
こんな時は室内に閉じこもっていることができません。1秒でも時間が許される限り、日光を浴びるべく外に出ました。
外を散歩していると、自分が作り替えられていくような爽快な気分になります。
これは脳内にセロトニンという神経伝達物質が流出しているためと説明できます。
セロトニンの滝音が聞こえるほど？ザーザーと脳内に流れ出ていました。
これだけの青空がなんと今週ずっと続くとの天気予報。そこでこの青空をうまく利用しない手はないと、家族と明日特別なことを計画中です。
湖のほとりでのピクニックランチ。
これでセロトニンに加えてオキシトシンが流出します。これは家族や近しい友人といる時、心と心がつながる時に安定と幸福感ともたらす神経物質です。
そこでは焚き火を作ることになっていて、湖に飛び込んで寒中水泳の予定です。これによってドーパミンが流出します。皮膚温度の寒暖差からの刺激によってもたらされる快楽と爽快感の神経伝達物質です。
これまで雨と暗い雲に閉ざされて、鬱々した気分から解放するための大作戦です。
寒中水泳だなんてかっこいいこと言ってますが、いざその時になると足がすくんで飛び込めないかもしれません。
その時は見逃してください。

The skies over Seattle today were unbelievably clear, just like a cloudless winter sky over Tokyo, with not a cloud in sight.
You can't stay indoors at times like this, so I went outside to soak up as much sunshine as I could, if only for a second.
Taking a walk outside feels exhilarating, as if I am being remade.
This can be explained by the outflow of a neurotransmitter called serotonin into the brain.
Can you hear the waterfall of serotonin? It was pouring out into my brain with a thunderous
What a weather forecast for this much blue sky all week. So, I'm planning something special tomorrow with my family to take advantage of this blue sky.
A picnic lunch by the lake.
This will release oxytocin in addition to serotonin. This is a nervous substance that brings with it a sense of stability and well-being when you are with family and close friends and when the heart and mind connect.
There, we are supposed to build a bonfire and plan to jump into a lake for a cold swim. This causes dopamine to flow out. It is aneurotransmitter of pleasure and exhilaration brought about by the stimulation from the cold temperature difference in skin temperature.
It's a great way to get away from the depressing mood we have been in, shut in by rain and dark clouds.
It's cool to say I gonna do cold swim, but when the time comes, my legs may be too weak to jump in.

本日は実に青空を見ることがました。
嬉しくなって日の明るいうちに散歩。
今までの世界とは違い、どこもかしこも輝いて見えます！
ところで聖書時代のユダヤ人は目に映るものに対して真逆の発想を持っていました。
明るく見えるのは、体の中に明かりがあり、その明かりを目から放って物事を照射して明るく見えると言うのです。
つまりウルトラマンやマジンガーZが放つ、目からのビームのようなものが人間の目から出ていると考えたのです。
当時は生物学や解剖学がまだ未発達の段階で古代人の制限制約された科学的知見からのものでした。
主イエスはそのような一般理解のある中で、次のように話されています。
"からだの明かりは目です。
ですから、あなたの目が健やかなら全身が明るくなりますが、
目が悪ければ全身が暗くなります。
ですから、もしあなたのうちにある光が闇なら、
その闇はどれほどでしょうか。"
マタイの福音書 6章22～23節
長い間この聖書箇所が謎でした。
ユダヤ的視座を知って、ようやく謎が氷解されて行きます。
物事を正しく見る(認識する)には、
あなた自身のうちに確かな真理(光)がなくてはならない。
正確な物差しがなければ、対象物がどのような長さかを測ることができません。
古代ユダヤでは目について現代の解剖学や生物学の教えるところと真似逆の考えを抱いていたのです。
目は、はフラッシュライトのようなもので、あなたの目が光を放ち、その光で物事を判断すると言うものです。
最近始めたオンラインでのユダヤ的洞察での聖書クラスで学んだことです。
このクラスで、次のような英語の格言も紹介されてました。
It is your attitude(態度)、not your aptitude(才能)、that determines your altitude(高度).
Today I saw a really blue sky.
I went for a walk in the light of day, happy.
Unlike the world in my state so far, everywhere looks brilliant!
The Jews of biblical times, by the way, had the exact opposite idea of what they saw.
They said that what appears to be brighter is that there is a light inside the body, and that the light is emitted from the eyes to illuminate things.
In other words, they thought it was like the beams from the eyes that Ultraman and Mazinger Z , they are my hero in Japanese animation, coming from the human eye.
This was from the limited scientific knowledge of the ancients at a time when and anatomy and biology were still in their infancy.
In the midst of such a general understanding, the Lord Jesus spoke as follows.
"The light of the body is the eye.
Therefore, if your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be brightened, but
If your eyes are bad, your whole body will be dark.
So if the light in you is darkness
How much more so will that darkness be?"
Matthew 6:22-23
For a long time this Bible verse was a mystery to me.
With the discovery of the Jewish perspective, the mystery is finally cleared away.
To see (or perceive) things correctly,
There must be a certain truth (light) within yourself.
Without an accurate measure, you cannot measure what length an object is.
The ancient Jews thought about the eye in a way opposite to what modern anatomy and biology teaches.
The eyes are like a flashing light; they say your eyes give off light and you judge things by that light.
This is something I learned in a Bible class I recently started online at Jewish Insights.
In this class, the following English proverb was also introduced:
“It is your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude.”
今日は日中、ずっと深い霧が町中をすっかりと包んで視界を遮るほどでした。
気温も上がらずに摂氏2度から3度ほど。
夕方になり霧も晴れたので近所の中学校までお散歩。
歩くのって健康のために最適ですよ〜
特にシアトルのような日光の当たらない世界に置かれているとそれだけで鬱になりそうです。
コロナのこともあるし。
なので意識して歩くことにしています。
数年ほど前まではジョギングしてたんですが、もう膝にガタが来ました。
普段なら中学校のトラックを歩いている人々を10人近く見かけるのに、今日は誰もいません。
みなさーん、こういった曇りの日にこそ意識して外歩きをしましょう。
足裏に刺激を与えると良いとどっかで吹聴した私は、裸足になり氷のように冷たい芝生を歩いちゃいました。あまりの冷たさに数分しか続きませんでしたけど。
そこからの夕日も心を和ませてくれました。
Today, all day long, a deep fog completely enveloped the town and blocked the view.
The temperature didn't even rise to 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
In the evening, the fog lifted, so I went for a walk to the nearby junior high school.
Walking is great for your health!
It's just depressing, especially when you're placed in a sunless world like Seattle.
And then there's the whole corona thing.
So I make a conscious effort to walk.
I used to jog about a few years ago, but my knees are already rattling.
Normally, I would see almost ten people walking down the middle school track, but today there is no one there.
It's on cloudy days like this that you should be conscious of walking outside.
I heard somewhere that it's good to stimulate your feet, so I went barefoot and walked on the icy cold grass. It was so cold, though, that it could last only a few minutes.
The sunset from there was soothing,too.
ヴィーガンの娘から伝授したレシピで初めてのブロッコリースープを作り、息子に味わってもらいました。
いつもはGOODとしか言わない彼が、今回はその上にVERYをくっつけてくれたのです！
夕食評価としてはアッパー&ミドル•クラスだそうです。
その後は米国で流行っていると言う中国を舞台としたアニメを共に視聴したことによって、アッパー&アッパーに位上げしてくれました。
昨日に続いて今夕もきれいな夕焼け空をどうぞ。
日没から15分後ぐらいに、数百の鳥たちが飛び交わしている瞬間に出会いました。これから彼らはどんな寝ぐらに向かってるんでしょう。
I made my first broccoli soup using a recipe I passed down from my vegan daughter and gave my son a taste of it.
He usually only says GOOD, but this time he was able to stick VERY much on top of it!
