世紀の上下院合同議会の1月6日が明けて今日。
人生には思わぬことが起こるものですね。
最後の頼みの綱だったペンス副大統領。
どうしてしまったんですか？
選挙自体が混乱して決着の着かない場合、各州議会による決議、それに副大統領の決意、といった幾重もの安全弁が組み込まれている合衆国憲法。
こんな時に貴方に任されている伝家の宝刀を抜いて欲しかったですよ、ペンスさん。
In God we trust.
(神にわれらは信頼を置く)
私たちはコインに刻印されているこの一文を、
今一度思い出さねばならないでしょう。
私たちは結局、大統領にも副大統領にも憲法にも選挙にも政治にも最終的な信頼を置くことができないのです。
"人間に頼るな。鼻で息をする者に。そんな者に、何の値打ちがあるか。"
(イザヤ書 2章22節)と、聖書は教えてくれています。
究極的な意味で信頼できる方とは、私たちを造られた方しかありません。
今日1日は、創造主の懐に抱かれるような大自然の中で、昨日までの緊張を癒していただきました。
湖の上で朝日と戯れました。
カヌーの先のほうに見える秀麗な山は、富士山のような孤峰でレニア山です。
高台から遠くを見渡し、夕日を眺めました。
「あなたの口を大きく開けよ。わたしがそれを満たそう」との詩編にある神様の言葉を思い出して息子とともにそのようにしてみました。

Vice President Pence was the last man who supposed to be standing.
What happened to him?
The U.S. Constitution has a number of safety valves built into it, such as resolutions by the state legislatures, and the Vice President's decision, in case the election itself is confusing and inconclusive.
At a time like this, I wish you would have pulled out your trusty sword, Mr. Pence.
“In God we trust.”
We need to be reminded once again of this sentence, engraved on the coin.
We cannot, in the end, put our final trust in the President, the Vice President, the Constitution, our elections, or our politics.
"Do not rely on man. On him who breathes through his nose. What is the value of such a man?"
(Isaiah 2:22), the Bible tells us this way.
The only One we can trust in the ultimate sense is the One who created us.
Today, we spent the day in the great outdoors, embraced by the bosom of our Creator, healing the tensions of yesterday.
We played with the morning sun on the lake.
The beautiful mountain at the end of the canoe is Mount Rainier, a solitary peak like Mt.Fuji.
We looked out into the distance from a hill and watched the sunset this evening.
I remembered God's words in the Psalms, "Open your mouth wide and I will fill it," and I did just that with my son.
