Japan Business Trip

I will be traveling to Japan a week from today on WestJet. This will be my first time flying with WestJet from Seattle to Calgary and then to Narita, Japan. Compared to other airlines, the price I got from WestJet for a full-flat business class seat was the best ever. For now, I am okay with being in a different class from Seattle to Calgary, and I may have to pay for checked baggage. However, it seems that the baggage fee is waived for the Calgary to Narita segment. I'll keep you posted.

来週からWestJetで日本へ行く予定です。WestJetでシアトルからカルガリー経由で成田へ飛ぶのは今回が初めてです。他の航空会社と比較して、WestJetのフルフラットビジネスクラスの料金はこれまでで一番お得でした。シアトルからカルガリーまでは異なるクラスになりますが、現時点ではそれで問題ありません。また、チェックイン荷物に料金がかかるかもしれませんが、カルガリーから成田までの区間では荷物料金が免除されるようです。状況についてはまたお知らせします。

HORENSO is a Japanese acronym for reporting (houkoku), communication (renraku), and Consultation (soudan) and is a crucial communication method in Japanese business culture. Properly practicing HORENSO allows you to convey the progress of work to your superiors and colleagues, as well as accurately communicate the status of projects to clients. This ensures that all parties involved are aware of the project's current status, which helps build trust.

HORENSO encompasses the following elements:

Reporting: Sharing current situations or progress with your superiors and stakeholders. This also includes regularly updating clients on project progress, results, and any issues. It helps clients understand the project’s status and proceed with confidence.
Communication: Conveying necessary information in a timely manner. By informing both your team and clients early about schedule changes or important details, you can prevent confusion and misunderstandings.
Consultation: Discussing problems or uncertainties as soon as they arise. This applies not only internally but also with clients. Early communication with clients allows you to identify solutions before issues escalate.

The Importance of HORENSO

Olympic in Japan is not a direct cause of surge in Covid-19

I do not think Olympic caused more Covid-19 cases in Japan directly, but I do think because of the Olympic, people in Japan do not take Covid-19 as seriously and made them move around more. I think Olympic is mentally playing the role in spreading Covid-19 in Japan.

Another factor is the lack of vaccines in Japan. only about 27.8% of populations are fully vaccinated. I do not understand why the vaccination is taking so much time. It is not like people do not want to get vaccinated.

Despite all this, I think Japan had been able to suppress the spread much better than other countries. I hope they will vaccinate more people soon and get back to as close to normal so that I can travel to Japan.

I had this salad for lunch.
I am trying to cut as much salt as possible.
It is not easy especially when you are eating Japanese food.

Doctors recommend that I take less than 2g (2000mg) of salt and 2g (2000mg) of potassium. No bananas or avocados.

What a Beautiful Sunset

I was at Japan-America Society Golf Tournament yesterday at New Castle.
The air ws little hazy but we had a beautiful sunset.

Doing Business with Gmail

Gmail is a very useful tool. However, if you are going to use it for business, I recommend that you use Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) instead of the free version. Unfortunately, it is not possible to convert your free Google Gmail to Google Workspace, but there are tools available to help you migrate.

As for what you can do with Google Workspace, there are many services, but I think the biggest thing is the large space and security it offers in regards to email. In terms of price, the cheapest plan is $6 per month in the U.S., or ¥680 in Japanese yen, which is a bit cheaper than Microsoft Office 365 at $9.99 per month.

Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 365 have irregular spam detection and will reject mail from your domain behind the scenes. This can cause communication problems. This must be done at the user level with Google Workspace, but not with free-to-use Gmail. This is very unsuitable for business.

If you want to use Gmail, we recommend that you upgrade to Google Workspace or have a mail server. Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. offers an email-only service for $99/year for 10 email accounts. Please contact me if you are interested.

When you create a website or web program or for that mater any computer programming, you should expect the user to do things you have near think about. You can tell user the thing you should not do, but even if they did, the program should be able to handle rather than crash.
