F.C.Gifu v Kamatamare Sanuki

F.C.Gifu v Kamatamare Sanuki
On Sunday I watched F.C.Gifu`s first home game of the 2015 season. They played pretty badly but won 1-0.

The weather was cool, but I had a good time. I enjoyed sitting on the grass behind the goal drinking happily, while my kids ate junk food greedily or ran around crazily. I expected them to vomit (嘔吐く) but luckily they didn`t.

Grammar:

- `__y` 動詞 ----> `__ily` 副詞; happy --> happily, crazy --> crazily, lucky --> luckily

2015 Asian Football Cup Winners!

Did you watch the AFC final between Australia & South Korea on Saturday night? I wanted to watch it live on TV, but I had a party to go to, so I recorded it & watched it when I got home. Of course I was pleased that Australia won. Even though I live in Japan, I always support Australia, even if it`s versus Japan ...actually, especially if it`s versus Japan! I was disappointed we didn`t meet this tournament.

Congratulations Australia!

Vocabulary:
- live ("ライブ") = いきえ なま ライブ live ("リブ") = 住む
- Be careful: "I went to a live concert." is OK, "I went to a live." is WRONG

I was disappointed that UAE beat Japan in their AFC quarter-final match. I really wanted Japan to win. If Japan had won, they would have played Australia next.

I really wanted Australia (not UAE) to beat Japan!

World Cup Update (World Cupdate?)

World Cup Update (World Cupd...

Sorry I haven`t been blogging lately. I`ve had a fever...

World Cup Fever!

Usually I get up late, but on Saturday I got up early to watch Australia play. They lost. The next day I got up early to watch England play. They lost too. After the England game I watched Japan play. They lost too. I feel bad but not too bad. Maybe because I`m an FC Gifu fan & I`ve gotten used to (なれている) losing.

Anyway, I hope my teams` luck improves.

Vocabulary:
- Late (adverb 副詞) = 遅く
- Lately (adverb 副詞) = recently 輓近
- Be careful: late & early are about time, but slow/fast are about speed, so "I start work late/early on Sunday" is OK. "I start work slow/fast on Sunday" is WRONG

Women`s Asian Cup Final

スレッド
Women`s Asian Cup Final
On Sunday night Japan & Australia met in the final of the Women`s Asian Cup. Japan won 1-0. I was supporting Australia, so I was disappointed (がっかりした ) But I should get used to losing - the Men`s FIFA World Cup is coming soon & Australia`s group is very difficult - I expect them to lose most of their games.

Pronunciation (発音):
Usually the letter 'o' has an オ sound e.g. on オン lost ロスト
But sometimes o has an ア sound e.g. come カム monkey マンキー honey ハニー
Sometimes o has an ウ sound e.g. lose ルズ
It can even have an イ sound e.g. women ウイメン

Be careful: won ワン = 勝った won ウオン = Korean money

FC-Gifu v Kamatamare Sanuki

FC-Gifu v Kamatamare Sanuki

You probably saw on the news that Ramos, Santos & Kawaguchi joined FC-Gifu. Big names. Big news.

Anyway, FC-Gifu played their first game of 2014 on Sunday. I saw on TV that they won 3-1. Yay!

I didn`t go to the game, but I read on the FC-Gifu website* that 11,000 people went. That`s a pretty big crowd for a J2 game.

Grammar:
- I saw on the news (that)...
- I read in a magazine (that)...
- I heard from a friend (that)...

* They have a great new English language page ( http://wearegifu.wordpress.com/ ), written by... Teragoya teacher Stuart! Excellent job, Stuart!!!

Curling, Hurling & Lawn Bowls

Curling, Hurling & Lawn ...
Have you been watching the Winter Olympics? I enjoyed watching the women`s curling. I`d never watched it before, but the rules are pretty easy to understand; they are similar to the rules for a sport called `lawn bowls`. Lawn bowls is popular in Australia, especially with old people, but it`s not so popular in Japan.

I thought curling was also the name of a sport in Ireland, but I made a mistake - that`s called `hurling`. As you can see, curling & hurling are not the same.

They are very very different.

I`d like to try curling & lawn bowls one day. I really don`t want to try hurling ever.

FC Gifu v Tochigi SC

FC Gifu v Tochigi SC
On Sunday I took my son to see FC Gifu play. As usual they lost, but the weather was nice & warm (it was a 1pm kick-off), my son had fun, & I enjoyed chatting with my workmate, Stuart.

Actually, I felt a little sorry for (feel sorry for = あいびんする?) FCGifu because they played quite well & Tochigi were a little dirty - they often faked (フリをする) injury (けが). Also their manager behaved badly - the referee had to stop the game twice to talk to him.

On Sunday I watched FC Gifu play.

As usual, they lost.

There aren`t many (すくない) games left (のこり) this season. Time is running out.
