Japan Wins the Womens World...
After 1-1 at full-time, & 2-2 after extra time, Japan beat the USA on penalties to win the 2011 Women`s World Cup Football final.

Well done! I think the USA were stronger, but Japan didn`t give up. Haha - I`m a little surprised but very happy about the result.

Congratulations Japan!

2011 FIFA Women`s World Cup
Japan have beaten Sweden 3-1 to reach the final of the Women`s Football World Cup. Japan played well & deserved to win.

In the final on Sunday, they will meet the world`s number 1 ranked team - the USA! It should be a good game - I`m looking forward to it.

By the way, don`t you think the Japanese uniforms are kind of cool? Instead of the red square at the neckline, like the men`s team, the women`s have a pink square. Nice idea!

Nagatomo Move to F.C. Internazionale

Nagatomo Move to F.C. Internaz...
Congratulations to Japanese footballer Yuto Nagatomo on his move to F.C. Internazionale, one of Italy`s biggest & most famous football clubs.

Although he`s small even by Japanese standards, he`s very quick, skillful & hard-working, and I think he`ll do well if he gets enough first-team game time.

2015 Asian Cup

2015 Asian Cup
I`m sad that Australia didn`t win the final of the 2011 Asian Cup in Qatar, but I`m glad to hear that the 2015 Asian Cup will be held in Australia. Great!

Of course it`s convenient for Australians like me, but I also think it`s much more convenient for Japanese, Korean & other Asian countries` fans who want to attend the games. I also think most people would rather visit Australia than somewhere like Qatar, right?

See you in Australia in 2015!

Asian Cup Final Result

Asian Cup Final Result
Aaargh!!!

Japan beat Australia 1-0 in the final of the Asian Cup. I`m so disappointed...

I thought Australia was stronger, and looked in control for most of the game, but they missed or wasted all their goal-scoring chances. Also, the marking disappeared for Japan`s goal. Where was our defense???

Anyway, congratulations to Japan and the goalscorer, Lee.

Hang on - isn`t `Lee` a Korean name...?

Hehe

Asian Cup Semi-Final results
Australia & Japan have both won their semi-final matches, so they`ll meet each other in the final on Saturday!

Excellent - I can`t wait!

Hmmm... where did I put my Australia scarf from last year`s world cup...?

2011 AFC Asian Cup
Australia & Japan have both reached the semi-finals of the Asian Cup in Qatar. If they win their next matches (on Tuesday), they`ll meet in the final on Saturday - great!

Have you seen any of the games? I think Japan looks quite strong this tournament; they got red cards in 2 games but still won.

Now Australia`s best players are getting old - half of our team is over 30, & our goalkeeper is 38...

World Cup Update #5

World Cup Update #5
I had intended to support Holland in the final, but after about 10 minutes of watching, I decided to support Spain instead. I don`t mind cheering on the `underdog` (= the team everybody expects to lose) but I don`t like dirty tactics & bad sportsmanship, and Holland played one of the dirtiest games of football I`ve seen in a while. They received so many yellow cards I lost count, & although they only received 1 red card, it should have been 2 or 3. Look at that tackle in the picture - can you believe he only got a yellow for that!?
I`m glad Spain won. Congratulations!
By the way, did you notice that the Japanese referee from the Holland v Brazil game was the `4th official` (the guy who holds up the Lost Time sign) for the final? I guess this was a kind of reward for his good performance, which I mentioned on this blog.

World Cup Update #4

World Cup Update #4
There have been a lot of bad refereeing decisions this World Cup, so it is good to see somebody do a good job. Congratulations to Japanese match referee Yuichi Nishimura - & his linesmen - for their performance in the Netherlands-Brazil game. I also like his `low-key` (calm & relaxed) style & manner. Other referees` actions are sometimes too energetic & theatrical - they look like they are doing Michael Jackson dance moves or something.

Did you know:

Referees tend to run 12 miles during a game - five more than the players, according to data from the U.S. Soccer Federation.

World Cup Update #3

World Cup Update #3
The group stages are now over, so we can say goodbye (& au revoir, & ciao!) to 16 teams.

Some of these teams will be very disappointed (France, Italy) but others, like New Zealand, can be very proud of their performance.

Of course I`m disappointed that Australia is going home. We always seem to have bad luck with referees in World Cups, but of course a lot of other teams have suffered because of bad refereeing decisions too.

From now on, if the games are still drawn at 90 minutes, they will go into extra time, and then penalty shoot-outs! Agh! So stressful!

I`ll probably go to Sportscaster bar in Ichinomiya to watch the Japan-Paraguay game on Tuesday night. How about you?
