On Sunday I played golf with some friends. It`s the first time I`ve ever played a round of golf in Japan.
The course was very different from the courses I`ve played on in Australia, which are quite flat. Like many Japanese courses, this course is in the hills, so it`s quite uneven, with forest & valleys all around. In fact, on a couple of holes, there was a forested valley instead of a fairway - I was nervous about teeing off on those ones!
It was very hot, but I enjoyed myself, & my score was okay. I managed to score `par` on a couple of holes, so I was pretty satisfied. Also, I didn`t lose many balls, & I didn`t get any blisters [mizubukure]- great!
On Wednesday Japan played Australia in a women`s football friendly (= not a competition or tournament). Japan were much better than Australia and won easily, 3-0. This is Japan`s last game before the Olympics. Australia are not playing in the Olympics, so I`ll definitely support Japan.
Japan`s men`s under-23 Olympic team played New Zealand on Wednesday and were much stronger, but N.Z. scored in the last minute of extra time, so the final score was 1-1. After the game, one of the Japanese players was crying, even though the game was just a friendly. That was pretty funny.
Did you watch any of the Euro 2012 games? As usual I supported England, & as usual I was disappointed. However, I was pleased that Italy beat Germany & made it to the final. I was especially impressed by Italy`s Andreas Pirlo. He had an excellent tournament & was great to watch. He also seems to have a good character & good manners. But he reminds me of the crazy killer in the movie `Silence of the Lambs`.

Japan`s women`s football team beat the United States 1-0 to reach the final of the annual Algarve Cup in Portugal - excellent! Unfortunately they lost 4-3 to Germany in the final, but I think they can be proud of that result. Well done, Nadeshiko! And well done Aya Miyama - she received the tournament`s Best Player award.

Congratulations All Blacks!
Australia lost their semi-final match against New Zealand, so the final this weekend will be New Zealand versus France. France are definitely the underdogs [= they are expected to lose], so I think I might support them if I watch it. Or I might go for a walk. Suddenly I`m not so interested in the rugby world cup anymore...
Have you been watching the rugby world cup? Australia, New Zealand, Wales and France have reached the semi-finals. I`m not a big rugby fan, so I`ve only watched one game so far, but I will try to watch the semi-finals.
Actually, watching professional rugby makes me feel kind of small & weak - the players are huge! I think if I played rugby, I would last about 2 minutes before being taken off on a stretcher. Or 2. And a bucket.
On Sunday I took Owen to see an F.C.Gifu game. He really enjoyed it, but I`m not sure he understands the rules properly yet:
Me: Come on... Come on...! GOAL! Gifu scored!
Owen: Yatta! (Yay!)
Later:
Me: Argh! They scored!
Owen: Yatta! (Yay!)
The final score was 1-1. This is the third time I`ve been to see F.C.Gifu play but the first time I`ve seen them score a goal. They`re not a very good team but I enjoy going; the atmosphere is pretty good & they have tasty hamburgers there.
Today the women`s football teams of Japan & Australia played a 2012 London Olympics qualifier. Japan won 1-0.
Australia played well for the first 15 minutes but then seemed to run out of ideas. They were missing a good passer-playmaker like Japan`s captain, Sawa. She`s a good player!
Congratulations to Cadel Evans, winner of 2011 Tour de France. He is the first Australian to ever win it.
The Tour de France is a world-famous sporting event with a long history, so this is big news for Australians.
