On New Year's Day this year, when the earthquake struck the Noto Peninsula, lacquer artist Suzanne Ross was in her studio in Wajima. As the building shook violently, she saw the floor crack in half between her legs as she clung to a pillar, and wondered if she was going to hell.
Ross's new works, which she created after the earthquake, are filled with a variety of emotions and prayers. Stand in front of the works and take in their messages.

We got to know Mrs. Ross at Hanaume by fate and we have been given
permission to introduce to you her because we want to convey her thought through her art to you that it is possible to live and pursue your dreams even if you have an illness.

Mrs. Ross came to Japan in 1984 and worked on creating lacquerware in Mitsui, Wajima City, but this January she experienced the earthquake and a health-threatening experience at almost the same time.
At first she was just scared and tried to distract herself by keeping busy, but she found that there was a last time that she could endure. When she finally mustered the courage to face herself, she realised there were some things she could never lose.

They are her connection with God, her connections with friends and customers, and the wisdom She has cultivated through her past experiences.
And when she was driven into a corner, she was able to count on someone who was willing to lend a hand, and by doing so, she realized that not only herself, but the person who would help her turned to be happy.
We introduce Suzanne in the belief that she will inspire many people through her non-wordly art and her powerful way of expressing herself through words.
Please have this great opportunity to see Suzanne and her work at TORINEKO.
