甘エビ、初経験です

本日ある方のご家族が大量に釣った甘エビのおすそ分けをいただきました。シアトル近郊の海でこれだけ立派なものが釣れるのですね。話には聞いていましたが、初めて目にして経験出来た産地産消の恵み。

2つのお皿にはそれぞれ同数の甘エビが載せられています。
一つは見ての通りの尾頭付き。もう一つはすべての殼を剥いで身だけとなったもの。こんなにも小さくなっちゃうんですね。
能登半島の金沢近郊で甘エビを賞味したのが私と甘エビとの最初の出会いでしたが、こちら米国でも遭遇できたことに感動です。

今日の夕焼けでも、初めての感動がありました。オリンピック山脈に夕日が沈んだ後に見出した、別の種類の夕焼けです。山脈向こう側ではまだ水平線上に太陽が顔を出しているはずです。そしてその後徐々に水没して行くのですが、その時に放つ赤い光線は左右広く水平線上に伸びて、真っ赤なゾーンを作っていたのです。いつもは山脈に太陽が沈むと即退散していたのですが、今回は息子に引きずられて延長戦をそうやって楽しむことができて、新たな発見につながりました。

ひとりでできること、ひとりで気がつくこと、ひとりだけで理解できることなんて笑っちゃうくらいに限られた小さな範囲に過ぎません。他者からの新たな見方や協力が得られると、新たな発見につながるものです。

"良識のない者には愚かさが喜び。英知のある者はまっすぐ歩む。

One person's family shared a large amount of sweet shrimp that they caught today. I've heard about it, but it was the first time for me to eat it here. It’s also said that I did experience of local production and consumption.

Each of the two plates has the same number of sweet shrimp on it.
One comes with the tail and head, as you can see. The other one is all shelled off and only the body is left. They become so small.
My first encounter with sweet shrimp was when I tasted them in Noto peninsula near Kanazawa. So I'm thrilled to have encountered it here in US.

Today's sunset was also the first time I've been impressed with a different way.
It's a different kind of sunset that I found after the sun had set over the Olympic Mountains. On the other side of the mountains, the sun should still be on the horizon. And then the sun would be gradually submerging into the ocean and the red rays of light would stretch out wide on both sides of the horizon, and that were creating a bright red zone. Normally I would have left immediately when the sun set over the mountain range, but this time my son dragged me to overtime, so I enjoyed seeing it, and it led to new discoveries.

It's funny what you can do alone, what you can realize alone, what you can understand alone,
It's only a small scope, limited to about recognizing the whole world. The New perspectives and cooperation from others can lead you to new discoveries.

"Folly brings joy to one who has no sense,

「悪人にも善人にも」

数日前に取り付けた懸垂バーに子供たちが初挑戦。
特に娘の努力たるや見上げたものです。
本気で忍者のような敏捷性と筋力とを身に付けようとしています。この夏の目標を5回と設定しました。現在は2回が限度。

そしてその直後に見上げた夕日はここ最近ないほどに見ごたえのあるものでした。
彼女の努力に応えて創造主が綺麗な夕日をギフトしてくれたのかなあと。そんなことをかつて考えていた自分がいた事に気づきました。
しかしそうではありません。

聖書の世界に触れれば触れるほど、神は私たちに公平な方であることがわかってきたのです。私たちの能力や努力や成功のいかんによって素敵なものを出し惜しみされる方では無いのです。
その証拠にほら、子供たちの努力にカメラを向ける事しかしなかった怠惰な私にも、このような素敵な夕日を同様に堪能することを許してくださっているのです。

"『あなたの隣人を愛し、あなたの敵を憎め』と言われていたのを、あなたがたは聞いています。
しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言います。自分の敵を愛し、自分を迫害する者のために祈りなさい。
天におられるあなたがたの父の子どもになるためです。父はご自分の太陽を悪人にも善人にも昇らせ、正しい者にも正しくない者にも雨を降らせてくださるからです。"
マタイの福音書　5章43～45節

The kids made their first attempt at the pull up bars that were installed a few days ago.
I especially looked up at my daughter's efforts.
They are seriously trying to develop the agility and strength of a ninja. She have set a goal of 5 times for this summer. Currently, she is limited to two.

And the sunset I looked up at shortly afterwards was the most spectacular I've seen in recent memory.
I wondered if the Creator had given us a beautiful sunset in response to her efforts. I realized that I had once wondered that way before.

But it's not so.

The more I was exposed to the world of the Bible, the more I realized that God is fair to us. He is not one who is willing to give away nice things based on our abilities, efforts and successes.

The proof of this, you see, is that I've been lazy enough to only point the camera at my children's efforts. Yet, He has allowed me to enjoy a beautiful sunset as well.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Matthew 5:43-45
