Kuma Museum of Art

Kuma Museum of Art
While doing Shikoku henro, we spent one night in a small town called Kuma. There was a small art gallery there, which we had just enough time to visit. Unfortunately they were holding an exhibition of strange modern photography instead of their usual collection, so I could only see it on their postcards... This is one I bought.

If you visit Kuma, I recommend visiting the Kuma Museum of Art. The curator is very nice, and if you ask (as my father-in-law did while I wasn`t looking), she`ll even book you a room for the night in town! What a kind lady.

I have heard "Kuma" for the first time, so I searched it on my PC. At first, I thought it's "熊", but then I found "久万"!! I see!

I thought it meant bear too, at first.
I looked on the internet & found out that In the U.S. there are 5 towns called "Bear", and, in fact, 2 people made a movie about them. You can see the trailer here: http://americanbearfilm.com/
What an interesting idea!

How strange was the exhibition of photos? And, did your father-in-law like them? What kind of art do you like? By the way, when I saw 'Kuma' in your article, I think it is your fellow's KUMA (his photo on the right side). He, he...

The artist`s name is Toshio Matsumoto. You can google him to see his kind art. Maybe then you can understand why I`m not so interested in it... Actually, we didn`t look at that exhibition. I`m pretty sure my father-in-law wouldn`t have liked it.
