Cooling Pad for your Laptop

Have you ever noticed that your laptop (notebook) computer gets hotter and hotter as you use it? Especially when you are running tasks like defragmentation and virus check. Unlike desktop computers, portable computers do not have strong fan to cool the system down.

I have purchased the cooling pad for my Macintosh at Costco last summer. It keeps my Mac cool to the touch. If you are using portable computer, you should consider buying one. It only costs around $20. My is Belkin and I think it is still available at Costco.

ARGOSY CRUISES

We had weekly Seattle Executives Association luncheon meeting on ARGOSY CRUISES (http://www.argosycruises.com/). ARGOSY is another member of the association and we have meeting on their ship twice a year. It is a wonderful 1-hour lunch cruise. The view is unbelievable.

If you have not tried, I suggest you try it. This is a picture I took during the cruise of another ARGOSY SHIP.

ANTI SPAM AND VIRUS --- Our Way!

We have been using several SPAM filtering devices and software for our email hosting services. However, those devices and software are causing more problems than what they solve. They sometime could not handle the volume of email that we process. To improve our customers experience with our email hosting, we have decided to develop our own SPAM and Virus filtering system.

We have installed this new system in our network and having work along with other commercial SPAM and Virus filtering system. We will continue to use both systems until one we created is fine-tuned enough to handle all SPAM and Viruses. Our system is one of the fastest SPAM filter in the market (actually for our internal use only) and combined with the load balancing system that we created last year will make it most reliable as well.

Also to speed up the email processing, we have created our own SMTP server. SMTP server is a piece of software that process email and deliver to the mail server. The fastest SMTP server that we have tested on out server can process around 70 emails per second. Ours processed over 400 emails. We are now building SPAM filtering function into this SMTP server. Even with the SMTP server, we should be able to process over 60 email every second.

We provide Web & Email hosting for companies. But we are difference from other hosting companies because we provide Web and Email hosting service using our own software at our datacenter. We are software research and Development Company and that makes us unique.

Who needs home inspection?

Mack (Bruce Mackintosh) from Centennial Home Inspection came over today to talk about Web site. We have moved his Web site from the former hosting company to PSPINC but we have not done Web update. So we will be cleaning up his Web. In addition to Web, we talked about Blog using this bloguru.com.

At this point 100% of his business comes from the word of mouth. Thats great, but he could use more exposure. Now a day, everybody can use more exposure. But the economy as bad as we are in now, none of us can allocate money for marketing. By using Blog, we are hoping that we can generate more traffic to his site and possibly more businesses for him.

I learned something today. The buyer, not through realtors or agent, should do home inspection. Realtor or agent, even when the agent is your agent, has an interest in having your purchase the home. And because of that they do not want see any inspector find something that could potentially break a deal. I thought that was really interesting. If I am buying a house, I will definitely call Mack to inspect the home.

What is next in computer hardware technology?

No.1 thing that I would like to have for my computer is SSD. SSD stand for Solid State Drive. It is a replacement to hard disk drive. Instead of having the disk store data magnetically, SSD uses memory to store data. It is faster, more durable (because there is no moving parts), uses less power to operate but more expensive. It is a perfect storage for portable computers.

Right now you can get 256GB SSD for about $500 to $600. It is down from $5,000 just one year ago. Like any other computer hardware, the prices are going down fast. Just wait one more year; you will be able to purchase SSD for $1 per 1GB. The only problem is that you can buy hard disk storage for $0.10 per 1GB now.

Is global warming real?

I don't know. Some say Yes and others say No. But I know the climate is changing. I do not know if it is caused by human or not, but it is changing. Yesterday, there were hail and left some ice on the ground. It is middle of April, and it is supposed to be spring.

Today, president Obama spoke about economy market reacted by shooting DOW downward. Nice. I like new president to do nothing when it comes to economy. But I know that the last thing he would do.

Facebook keeping my info.

I closed mu Facebook account. I did not see it very useful for my business or my personal networking. Today I received an email from them stating that I can reactivate my old account using my email address and my password.

They are telling me that they are going to keep my information (although it will not be available for viewing to anyone) after I asked them to close my account just in case I change my mind. How nice of them.

DELETE THE DOMB THING LIKE I ASKED! (Excuse my Japanese)

Today, after careful consideration, I have decided to close my Facebook account permanently. The only social networking I am doing now is "Linked In".

I acually had a Facebook account for long time but have never used it.

Temporary Out

I received couple of messages on mu Linked In account. I logged in and saw my message and wrote a reply and hit [SEND]. Then it happened. Actually, nothing happened. About 10 seconds later, screen turned in to the image that you see on the top. The mail server is down at Linked In. I cannot send any mail.

It does not happen often, but it shows even the company like Linked In can get this kind of problem. I saw this happened to Gmail before. As a hosting company, I know what must be going on to recover this at Linked In. I do really can relate to that.

ORGANIC BANANA ... ISN'T IT TOO GREEN?

I bought bananas ... At the store, all of them were this green. Aren't they too green? I have not eanten any of them. I don't think I can even peal them yet.

It has been two days ... they are still green.
