Today's wallpaper is a photo of playground equipment taken at a park called Robinswood. Modern playgrounds are designed with safety in mind—soft wood chips now cover the ground to cushion falls, and the equipment itself is built to prevent injuries, unlike the playgrounds of the past.

I used to love jumping off the top of jungle gyms into the sandbox. That would probably be considered dangerous now. I also remember the metal slides in the park—they were made of stainless steel, and on hot summer days, they’d get so hot they could burn your skin. There were spinning playground rides too, and I remember being thrown off at high speed, along with a few others. You don’t see those anymore—calling them "play equipment" might be too generous; they were more like weapons!

We often got scraped and bruised playing at the park, but kids today rarely experience that. I used to enjoy climbing trees with my friends and jumping off from high branches, but I never see children doing that nowadays. Kids today seem a lot softer. I can’t help but wonder—will they be okay when they grow up?

今日のウォールペーパーは「ロビンズウッド」という公園で撮影した遊具の写真です。最近の遊具は、安全性が重視されていて、地面には転んでも痛くないように柔らかい木くずが敷かれていて、遊具自体も昔のように怪我をするようなものは見られません。

私は昔、ジャングルジムのてっぺんから砂場に飛び降りるのが大好きでした。今なら「危ない」と言われそうですね。公園にあったステンレス製の滑り台は、夏になると熱くなりすぎて、滑るとお尻が火傷しそうになったのを覚えています。ぐるぐる回る遊具もあって、ものすごいスピードで回していたので、私を含めて何人かが振り飛ばされることもありました。そんな遊具、今ではもう見かけません。もはや遊具というより“武器”と言ったほうが正しいかもしれません。

昔は公園でよく擦りむいたり、怪我をしたものです。でも今の子供たちは、そういう経験をすることがほとんどありません。私は木に登って、そこから飛び降りるのが好きでしたが、今の子供たちでそんなことをしているのを見たことがありません。今の子たちは本当に“ソフト”ですよね。こんなことで、大人になって大丈夫なんでしょうか？
