There are times when I really think I might be a contrarian. Especially when someone, in what I assume is a sales pitch, says something like, "Let me help your company." That really gets under my skin. If someone says, "Let's do something together," I can understand that. But when they say, "Let me help you," it feels condescending, like they’re looking down on me. It makes me think, "Why do I have to listen to this?" and I get upset. As a result, I never respond to those kinds of sales calls.

 

Another thing that bothers me is when people use the word "collaboration" as a disguise for simply trying to sell their product to us. That’s not collaboration. If you want me to buy something, just say it upfront. I always think, "Why not be honest from the start and just say you want me to buy your product?"

 

So, yeah, maybe I am a contrarian. But I want to stick to my principles. Relationships should be equal, and true collaboration should be about sharing benefits for both sides.
