今日はいつもとは異なるところで夕日を観察に出かけました。
近所にある中学校校庭です。
今年最後の日曜の午後、
皆様はどのようにお過ごしでしょうか。
今年は例年とは異なる画期的な年でした。
世界史に大きく刻まれるであろう、パンデミックによる世界同時鎖国化です。
パンデミックの収束はまだおぼつかなく、ここ最近、感染者の急激な広がりが報道されています。
昨日と今日で全ての外国人の入国が、イスラエルでも日本でも一時禁止されました。
また来年早々、混乱を極めた米国大統領選挙の結果が判明しそうです。
カリフォルニアのロックダウンが解除されるかどうかも注視しています。
例年なら、こんなきれいな夕日を見ながら地元の中学生たちはクラブ活動を楽しんでいたことでしょう。野球、サッカー、陸上競技、、、校庭で暗くなるまで時間を忘れて没頭できるだなんて、一生のうちに経験出来る瞬時の特権なはず。
その貴重な青春のひとこまも奪われてしまいました。
我が息子も、楽しみにしているサッカーの試合がいよいよ高校卒業まで全てが取り上げられてしまったのです。
そんな人間界の異変に全く関与せずと言わんばかりに、自然界の営みは続けられています。
神の目から見て私たち人間は自然界より偉大なものです。
パンデミックも、戦争も、また病も、超越したかのように悠久の時を刻みながらびくともしない自然界。
その自然界よりも私たち1人の価値は偉大であると教えています。
年の瀬になると永遠の時に思いが至ります。
広大な自然を前にすると無限の空間に思いを寄せます。
そして、自然と空間と時間の創造者なる方に。
その創造者なる方が人間との関係を築くために遣わされたひとり子なる方に。
"空の鳥を見なさい。
種蒔きもせず、刈り入れもせず、倉に納めることもしません。
それでも、あなたがたの天の父は養っていてくださいます。
あなたがたはその鳥よりも、ずっと価値があるではありませんか。
あなたがたのうちだれが、心配したからといって、
少しでも自分のいのちを延ばすことができるでしょうか。"
マタイの福音書 6章26～27節
Today I went out to observe the sunset at a different place than usual.
It was in the schoolyard of a nearby junior high school.
It's the last Sunday afternoon of the year.
How are you doing?
This year has been a groundbreaking year, different from other years.
This year was a different kind of epoch-making year, one that will go down in world history as a pandemic that shut down the world simultaneously.
The pandemic is still far from over, and there have been reports of the rapid spread of infected people in recent days.
Yesterday and today, all foreigners have been temporarily banned from entering Israel and Japan.
Also, early next year, we are going to find out the results of the confusing US presidential election.
I'm also watching to see if the California lockdown will be lifted.
In past years, the local junior high school students would have enjoyed their club activities while watching such a beautiful sunset. Baseball, soccer, track and field... it must be an instant privilege to be able to lose yourself in the schoolyard until dark.
That precious moment of youth has been taken away from them.
My son's soccer games, which he looks forward to so much, have been taken away from him until he finally graduates from high school.
The workings of the natural world continue on, seemingly unconcerned with such anomalies in the human world.
In the eyes of God, we humans are greater than the natural world.
Pandemics, wars, and diseases have not faltered in the natural world, which has been ticking away for a long time as if it has transcended.
It teaches us that the value of each of us is greater than that of the natural world.
At the end of the year, I am reminded of eternal time.
When I am faced with the vastness of nature, I think of infinite space.
And to the Creator of nature, space, and time.
And also to His only begotten Son, whom He sent to establish a relationship with humanity.
“Look at the birds of the air;
they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?”
Mathew 6:26-27
