Have you seen the movie "The Ring"? If so, then you`ll recognise my costume for last Sunday`s kids halloween party at our Ginan school. This character`s name is `Sadako`. I guess this is a really unpopular girl`s name since that movie came out....
Even though most small kids have never (I hope!) seen the movie, some at the party were really scared by my costume. A few even cried. Of course I felt bad about that. I felt so bad I chased some of them and made them cry more.
This Saturday night is our adults` halloween party at our Gifu school. I will wear the same costume. I think it will be hard to make make adults cry, but if I drink too much & behave badly enough, maybe my boss will.

Everybody knows that Japanese people love visiting Hawaii, but not everyone knows that hula dancing is a popular pastime in Japan. That`s lucky for Teragoya, because it means we could find lots of excellent performers for our Hawaiian party in Gifu last week. They look fantastic, don`t they? Thanks, ladies!
A student also played the ukelele and sang a Hawaiian song for us - I was pretty impressed.
People were also impressed by my delicious cocktails, though they were a little surprised that my `Blue Hawaii` was green.
The Taiko performance at Gifu Teragoya on Saturday night was great. The guys put on a powerful performance - we were all impressed.
Afterwards they let us try drumming on the big drum (in this picture) if we wanted to. I didn`t try, because I`m not good at keeping a beat, & I didn`t want to embarrass myself (well, more than usual anyway) but some students & teachers tried. Some could do it, but others weren`t so good...

On Saturday, Gifu Teragoya held its Christmas party. Our special guest was the talented and amusing Ozawa-san, who performed a variety of magic tricks for us all. Thanks and good job!
I also performed a couple of magic tricks - first I made some alcohol disappear, then I introduced myself to a student who told me that, actually, we had already met. I had completely forgotten - magic! Sorry...
Finally, after cleaning up, I disappeared to Bier Hall.

If you don`t know, a `pot luck` party is one where everyone brings some food. The variety & quality of dishes at Saturday night`s party was excellent - pasta, salad, sushi, nabe (a pot of soup/broth/stew), cupcakes, pancakes and more. A very satisfying winter feast. Well done everyone!
Of course there were drinks too - soda/soft drink, juice, beer, & wine, including a familiar-looking bottle of beaujolais nouveau which managed to survive last week`s Gifu wine party.
Our regular Ichinomiya musician, Kiyotaka, was performing in Nagoya, so he couldn`t attend. Fortunately we had a charming replacement in Yoshiko, who brought her electric piano & played various popular Christmas tunes for us. We even had a sing-along for `Santa Claus is Coming to Town` - good fun.
Indeed, Santa Claus IS coming to town - have you finished (started?) your Christmas shopping yet?
This year`s adults` halloween party was excellent! Lots of people came, and the costumes were amazing - I was really impressed.
I didn`t wear my refrigerator costume from the kids` halloween party; it was too damaged and I couldn`t be bothered [mendokusai] repairing it. But I think my replacement costume is pretty funny and stupid too, right?
Aaah... I`m a bit embarrassed about it... Nevermind!
Anyway, it was a really fun event. Did you go? If so, I hope you had a good time, and if we chatted, I hope I didn`t say anything too silly to you (I blame Henriette`s delicious cocktails).

Yes - my costume this year was... a refrigerator-freezer!
There were lots of activities for the kids to do at the party. When they finished each teacher`s activity, they could get a stamp on their card. When they collected all the stamps they could get a prize. As usual, I made a big puzzle. When they finished the puzzle, they had to open the freezer to get the stamp for their card... Some kids were too scared to open the door. Other kids just opened the door, took the stamp and barely looked at me - not scared at all!
Anyway, it was an interesting challenge making my silly costume, and everyone thought it was funny, so I`m satisfied.
Unfortunately I didn`t win the `Best Teacher`s Costume` prize. Stuart (dressed as an American football player) won it this year. Congratulations Stuart!
And thanks everyone who came - 104 kids this year! Our best attendance ever!

Teragoya held another fun & fantastic party last Saturday night at our Gifu school. The theme was `Reggae`, so everyone wore resort wear, and there was a live DJ & reggae dancing. Also, Henriette from Gifu Teragoya made cocktails - I don`t usually drink cocktails, but the Pina Colada she made was excellent - good job, Henriette!
Everyone had a great time and I was able to chat with some students who I knew, & also meet some new people. I also got to see a strange new dancing style - thanks Parren!
I hope to see you at our next party - remember, everyone is welcome! Oh - and 10% of the money we receive for parties is donated to a Tohoku Disaster charity - another good reason to attend.

I do, & in both cases I was excited, embarrassed, and confused...
But I knew I wanted more!
So! Last Saturday I joined a crowd of rock romantics at Gifu Teragoya for another performance by our favorite Kiss tribute band, `God of Thunder`. Of course they didn`t disappoint, putting on a performance I don`t think anyone will ever forget. Even if they try hard to.
New additions since last time included a smoke machine, a cool laser display, & a new drummer. I had a nice chat to him & his lovely girlfriend afterwards. It was a strange experience talking to a guy wearing more make-up & sexier clothes than the girl beside him. He apologised for not singing `Bess` & I apologised for staring at his sequins.
Did you go to the concert? If not, you missed an awesome time!
Oh - & thanks Kiyotaka (Ichinomiya Teragoya student - Yay!) for your opening performance, including 2 songs in English - good job!
On Friday, Ichinomiya Teragoya held a Tanabata Party at an izakaya called Wataminchi (why do staff always laugh when I say it?), which is in front of Ichinomiya Station. The interesting thing for me about this izakaya is that it used to be a Nova school before, and I used to work there! So the place we drank beer & ate food on Friday used to be a classroom where I taught English to students - pretty funny!
Anyway, everyone had a good time, and I realised I`m not a heavy drinker at all after sitting next to Mr. Kesao...
Thanks everybody for coming, & thanks to those who wore yukatas - you all looked so cool!
