Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. 345 How Will AI and Robotics Affect Human Jobs?

Ken Uchikura Newsletter Vol. ...

How Will AI and Robotics Affect Human Jobs?

Throughout history, mechanization has dramatically transformed the structure of human industries.
In manufacturing, we’ve automated manual processes, and in agriculture, the introduction of machines has significantly improved efficiency. While these technological innovations have boosted productivity, they’ve also replaced many traditional jobs, reshaping where and how people work.

However, previous machines have been tools that simply execute pre-defined tasks accurately and could not think or make decisions on their own.

But now, with the fusion of artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, this is changing rapidly. AI is now capable of learning from vast amounts of data, making autonomous decisions, and determining optimal actions. Robots are also evolving from simple mechanical tools into systems that can adapt to their environments with flexibility.

This evolution will likely lead to the automation of many jobs that were once considered “only possible for humans”. So, in this new era, what kinds of jobs can only be done by humans?

For example, research, development, art, consumption, entertainment, and creative problem-solving.
These fields still require human sensibility and intuition.

However, the problem is, can the world only employ everyone in those kinds of jobs?
Not everyone can transition into creative or highly specialized fields that demand advanced skills or innovation. To ensure that all people can eat, live, and thrive, we need a much broader range of work opportunities.

Going forward, we’ll need to redefine what “only humans can do” and create new jobs and industries based on that new definition. Jobs rooted in education, caregiving, communication, and ethics may become part of this.

AI is an entity that takes away human jobs. At the same time, it also becomes an opportunity to rethink the meaning of work itself.
Instead of fearing this transformation, finding ways to leverage it together will be the key to surviving in the coming era.

Can AI or robots replace your current job?
