Today Marks 6 Months Since My Kidney Transplant

 

Today marks the beginning of the sixth month since I underwent my kidney transplant surgery at Virginia Mason. It’s hard to believe how much has changed in such a short period of time. What once felt like a distant hope is now a daily reality — and I am beyond grateful.

 

Before the transplant, my life revolved around dialysis, with treatments twice a week that left me physically drained and emotionally tired. Dialysis kept me alive, yes, but it also came with a heavy cost — limitations on travel, strict dietary restrictions, and the constant weight of uncertainty.

 

Then came the transplant. The procedure itself was both daunting and miraculous. Thanks to the incredible medical team at Virginia Mason, everything went smoothly, and recovery has been progressing steadily. I now find myself experiencing something I almost forgot: what it feels like to live a normal life.

 

No more machines. No more scheduling everything around treatments. I have more energy, greater freedom, and a renewed sense of purpose. Each morning feels like a gift, and I don’t take it for granted.
