PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 99 "Authenticating companies with domain names"

スレッド
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Why do companies, organizations, and sole proprietors have websites with their own domain names? Have you ever wondered why you need a unique domain name for your website? The answer is simple. It’s to drive awareness towards the existence of your company.

There are many ways to share information about your company. There are numerous social media platforms like Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and many more to do just that. However, it’s hard to authenticate your company’s presence just on these platforms. It’s easy to create a page on any of these social networks. Anyone can do it, and they can do it for free. So, it’s unfortunately not clear proof that the company really exists just from social media profiles alone.

A domain name, on the other hand, belongs to the company or organization that registered it. No one else can have it because of that. Additionally, SSL certification guarantees the company’s existence while also encrypting communications. To authenticate the information you have on Facebook, Yelp, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and any other platforms you use, you’ll need to operate a website with your own domain name. So, naturally, you should also run your email on the same domain.

While Gmail is convenient, it goes without saying that it’s more trustworthy to use your domain name in your email. But it’s also useful to note that you can use your domain name for your email but still use Gmail to send and receive emails. If you have any questions about getting a domain name and creating a website, please contact Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. at any time.

How Companies Use AI

スレッド
How Companies Use AI
Although AI seems like a newer concept, it’s actually been around for quite some time. In fact, the first instance of modern AI happened in 1956 at the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence (DSRPAI). There, the term, artificial intelligence was coined after Allen Newell, Cliff Shaw, and Herbert Simon presented their program, the Logic Theorist, designed to imitate the human’s ability to problem-solve. So to say technology’s gone a long way since then is an understatement.

Now, we live in the “big data” age, which is why AI's become a much bigger trend in recent years. We're now in an era where computers can hold and process an immense amount of data. Much more than any human being could process. And now, we’ve gotten to the point where companies can use AI to streamline processes, increase efficiency, and better market to their customers.

Administrative and Financial Services

open laptop next to papers spread out on a desk with a phone open to the calculator app and stacks on money

To perform fairly simple administrative and financial tasks, many companies use AI to do the work that used to be done by human beings. From a simplistic point of view, these robots are essentially inputting and consuming data and then doing the appropriate action needed. These tasks include transferring data into records, updating information, and fixing various system failures. For example, businesses can store information like name and email after making a sale or update customer files in situations when a customer moves or changes their phone number. Even PSPINC uses it with PSP Pilot, which is our free CRM service that helps businesses manage tasks and customer data.

Additionally, AI can streamline processes for the financial sector. One example of this is replacing a lost or stolen credit card. After handling the customer on the phone, robots will reach into multiple different systems to handle the whole ordeal. Companies also use AI to help detect credit or insurance fraud

Customer Service

One very common AI practice is to use it to improve customer service. For example, many companies will embed a chatbox into their website, specifically designed to respond to customers’ questions and requests. Or they have an AI robot answer the phone when customers call in for support.

But for companies that handle more complex problems, automated phone calls aren’t always ideal. In fact, PSPINC still uses live support technicians to handle customer calls. However, AI is still very beneficial for businesses looking to streamline the customer service experience. AI allows companies to give their call center employees a break by using robots to provide 24/7 customer service on issues like password assistance or basic tech support questions.

Targeted Marketing

marketing professionals sitting at a table with analytical documents and a laptop in front of them cheering

Have you ever looked at something on a shopping site only for something similar to show up as an ad on your Facebook page? Or sometimes, you’ll see the exact product you were looking at earlier. That’s AI’s targeted (or retargeted) marketing hard at work. Using customers’ browser histories, robots can recommend similar products and services that the algorithm believes they’ll like as well. All of this, in turn, helps businesses increase not only sales but engagement and personalization.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 95 "Running a company with just a cell phone"

スレッド
PSPINC What's New Newslette...

Recently, some people seem to be doing work related to their companies using only their cell phones. Cell phones are indeed more convenient than PCs when it comes to email, chatting, and social networking. However, even if you look at the back-office functions required for business, such as accounting, many tasks cannot be done on a cell phone.

As is the case with us, we don't carry our PC with us when we go out for work unless there is a good reason or a business trip. Therefore, I believe that cell phones are a convenient and indispensable tool, but I don't feel that they are a replacement for PCs.

How do you use your cell phone? Do you use your cell phone for shopping? Is there any research that you do on your cell phone? As the functions of cell phones improve, the ways we use them will change as well. We believe that we need to target cell phones in our future development.

Tips for Email Marketing

スレッド
Tips for Email Marketing
Being able to reach out to customers is important, but you don’t need to be a professional marketer to do it. Below are a few tips for your email marketing efforts.

Keep It Short

The average attention span of users is short and it’s’ important to grab their attention right away. Providing a lot of content for them to read is a quick way to have them delete your message and move on. In addition, a large number of people will be checking their email from their mobile devices. Longer content leads to more scrolling and potentially burying important information “below the fold”.

Use a Single Column Layout

With websites, we often create intricately crafted multi-column layouts to organize and arrange data. While this is great for the modern web and useful for certain types of websites, that philosophy doesn’t carry over to emails for a couple of reasons.
  1. You should be designing for mobile devices. We already talked about this, but remember, a large number of your customers reading your email marketing messages will be doing so from a mobile device. Creating an experience geared towards those users that also work for desktop computers usually leads us to a clean single-column layout.

  2. Email clients don’t place nice. Depending on what device, email software, or service you are using, they will render emails differently and support different technologies. The more complex your email layout, the more room for error exists. Sticking to a single-column layout increases the odds that you are giving everyone a consistent experience across the board.

Have a Call to Action

Regardless of the type of email marketing you are doing, you will most certainly have a goal. Whether it is to have customers call your business, visit your store for a sale, purchase something online, or give you contact information for lead generation efforts.

To achieve these goals you will want to have a “‘call to action” that is clearly defined. Use clear speech and visual cues to grab the user’s attention and have them follow through on your desired action.

Those are just a few things that you are able to do to maximize your email marketing efforts. At PSPINC we offer NewsMAIL, our email marketing service as a tool to achieve these efforts. We also have a team of skilled Designers able to apply these principles, and design professional email broadcasts for your business.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol.77 "So, I made a website - now what?"

スレッド
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Vol. 77

Many individuals and small businesses have created a website, but do not promote it. Making a website and attracting people are two different things. This is a big responsibility of the professionals who are in the business of making websites. This is because they often recommend making a new website as a means of attracting customers to it.

Please take the time to think about this. What kind of websites do you usually use? Most of you probably use YouTube, Amazon, Facebook, Twitter, etc. The bottom line is that most of the sites where we spend our time aimlessly visiting are entertainment, shopping, and social sites. We do not visit corporate websites in our spare time.

Therefore, there is no reason for you to be attracted to a normal company website. The reason that people are attracted to a company's homepage is that they have decided on their requirements from the beginning. Therefore, there is no natural way to attract people from the outset. So the question then becomes where to promote your company's website to people who need your company.

That is where search sites come in. However, getting found on search sites like Google is not easy or cheap. That's why we think it's a good idea to use listing pages and search sites that are specific to your business. Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. is currently developing and operating a listing and search site for coaches in the Japanese market - https://c-sagaseru.com.

In the future, we would like to translate this site into English and release it for various industries. A website is important, but instead of spending money on a stand-alone site, we believe that a service like this can take its place.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol. 72 "How do you deal with bad reviews?"

スレッド
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Vol. 72

The Internet has surpassed media such as television and newspapers in terms of being seen by many people. It has become commonplace to use social media and other mediums to promote a company. When you use social media in this way, you have to understand that it is not a one-way platform like TV or traditional print material.

What I mean by that is with social media, not only the sender but also the receiver can write comments and evaluations. Naturally, some of the comments and feedback are positive (favorable), but there is also negative (unfavorable). Naturally, you would want to erase the bad comments. However, there is no value in a social media platform that can erase all bad reviews. Social media is a place to create opportunities for those who send out information to improve if there is room for improvement.

Often, the first response to a bad review or a problem is to defend oneself: "That's not true,” or "We don't have a problem.” This is the same as deleting bad reviews, which can cause what is often called "flaming." When a flare-up occurs, the story expands to something completely different from the facts, this should never happen.

If you receive a bad review, the right thing to do is to apologize to the other person. Even if you did what you thought was correct, if you made the other person feel bad, the proper way of handling it is to apologize. After that, it is necessary to conduct an actual investigation to clarify what went wrong. Even if it turns out to be a misunderstanding on the part of the other party, don't just say, "That's it.”

I believe that bad publicity is not always a bad thing. If you are in business, it is very difficult to be liked by all people. Try to understand where the other person is coming from, and think about how to respond in a way that is understandable to them and you, so that a response will not cause a flame war.

PSPINC What's New Newsletter Vol.71 "The grass is always greener next to you...it's not."

スレッド
PSPINC What's New Newslette...
Vol. 71

If you look at the pages of any company website, you will find only good things about them. This is because they believe that marketing is to always make yourself look big, the way a blowfish swells up to make itself look bigger when it meets an enemy. They try to attract customers by constantly saying that they can do this and that. However, I think that they have been doing this too much lately and have lost sight of the scale of their business, the scope of what they can do, and the characteristics of their company.

No matter how much you try to look good and big, there are limits to what you can do. So, instead of trying to make yourself look big, I think it is important to market the business that you are best at. What is it that you do best right now? Does your website do a good job of describing it?

It's hard to develop a broad and shallow scope of business because the market is too big. No matter the size of your company, it doesn't take much money or time to focus your marketing efforts on one specific point. The first thing to do is to think about what your company's strengths are. The smaller the scope, the better. The Internet market is huge, so no matter how small your frame of reference is, it will be enough for the market size.

Once you have decided on this, create a website to make it known to as many people as possible. Also, be sure to follow up with social networking sites and blogs related to this point of focus. If you are successful, then you can expand your target audience little by little. If you spread a big net from the beginning, you will not catch anything and it will be difficult to continue.

Create a focused website at a reasonable price, give us a call. Marketing is the place to start, ignoring the noise around you and showing what you're good at.

How to structure and organize your website navigation

スレッド
How to structure and organize...
When it comes to designing and building a website there are many important things you need to consider when it comes creating something useful for your visitors. Above all else, “content is king” is a phrase that continues to ring true no matter what. If you aren’t providing useful content, what purpose do your customers have to come to your website?

With that being said, providing the best content is not helpful if you don’t organize it in such a way that your visitors can actually find it! Therefore, it’s really important that you invest time and thought into mapping out what pages you want to create, and how you want users to access them in your website navigation.

Frustrated woman

Common mistakes people make

Too Many Pages

The more pages you have, the more clicks you expect of your users to navigate through your content. It also presents challenges with how you organize your pages.

Too Few Pages

I know, kind of a contradiction of the last point, right? If you have too few pages, you end up cramming more content on fewer pages. Doing this forces a user to sift through to find the information important to them. At this point, you are encouraging them to seek their information elsewhere.

Bloated Top-level Navigation

When we say top-level navigation, we are referring to the navigation links a user can see at first glance when they visit your website. The more links you have in this space the harder it is for users to find what they are looking for. It also presents challenges when users on smaller screen sizes (such as tablets) stop by.

Multi-level Dropdown Navigation

A dropdown navigation is a box that appears when you hover over your top-level navigation item. It shows sub-pages that are nested under a specific category. While one level of sub-navigation is not only acceptable but very standard, adding another level of sub-navigation items should be avoided for usability reasons.

Thumbs up

Tips for designing your navigation

    • While there is no minimum or maximum for top level navigation items, if you have more than 7 top level nav items, especially with a horizontal navigation, it is starting to get a bit busy.

    • Avoid extremely lengthy page/navigation names

  • Your site should be responsive (read a previous article for just some of the reasons) and when you are on a mobile device, your navigation should collapse into a hidden hamburger menu to make it easy for users to use your website.Hamburger menu as seen on Dreamersi

There is a lot to think about when it comes to structuring your website navigation. If you need a professional opinion on your plan or help to build your website, please let us know. We have the industry experience to help you make the right choices for your website. Call us 1-800-232-3989, email us at contact@pspinc.com, or visit us at PSPinc.com.
