私の息子と同学年の息子さんのいるご夫妻と話す機会がありました。
その息子さんはバスケットに夢中で、このパンデミック期間中は学校や地域のチームはすべて閉鎖されているため、個人経営のクラブチームで練習しているそうです。
さらに他の個人経営のジムにも体力養成のために通っていて週にほぼ毎日、学校はないものの、通うジムがあるとのことです。
私の息子の属している地域サッカーの練習も試合もここ1年、全てキャンセルされた話をすると意外なこととして驚かれました。
サンフランシスコでのバレーやバスケなど体育館内でのスポーツは学校や地域で禁止されているが、サッカーなどの屋外スポーツは許可されているとのことです。
そりゃそうですよ。
どう見たってそれが理性的な正しい判断でしょう。
野外で他の選手の吐息や唾液からウィルス感染する確率の低さを冷静に考えてみてもらいたいものです。
そもそも選手自身に他者に感染させるだけのウィルスを保有している確率の圧倒的低さ。
万一ウィルスを保有している選手がいるとして、スポーツ活動している健康な10代が重篤化する確率の低さは限りなくゼロに近いはずです。
練習や試合で怪我のために入院や死亡する確率の方が大きい。
先も息子とシアトルのある公園で2人だけのサッカーをしたとき、小学生サッカーチームが隣で練習を始めた。
大人のコーチも小学生も全てマスクをしている。あんな顔半分覆いながらどうやって息できるんだろう、どうやって楽しめるんだろう？？
マスクなんて必要ないよー、と大きな声で叫びたかったけど、その声は既に多くの情報によって操作され恐れに支配されている彼らコーチには届かないでしょう。
サンフランシスコは坂の上に建てられた街です。時に住宅街の真ん中に断崖絶壁の岩肌がそそり立ってるのを見つけることができます。その絶壁のすぐ下が児童公園となっているのですが、入り口は封鎖されていて使用禁止となっていました。

When I told them that my son's local soccer team had cancelled all practices and games for the past year, they were surprised.

That's the rational and correct decision, no matter how you look at it.
I would like you to calmly consider the low probability of contracting a virus from the breath or saliva of other athletes in outdoors.
In the first place, there is an overwhelmingly low probability that the athlete himself possesses a virus that can infect others.
Even if an athlete does have the virus, the probability of a healthy teenager playing sports becoming seriously ill should be close to zero.
The odds of hospitalization or death due to injury at practice or a game are much greater.
The other day, when my son and I were playing soccer alone in one of the parks in Seattle, an elementary school soccer team started practicing next to us.
All the adult coaches and elementary school kids were wearing masks. I wondered how they could breathe or have fun with their faces half covered like that.
I wanted to shout out loud, "You don't need a mask!" but that voice would not reach these coaches who were already manipulated by so much information and controlled by fear.
San Francisco is a city built on a hill. Sometimes you can find a sheer rock face in the middle of a residential area. Just below the cliff is a children's park, but the entrance was blocked off and it was forbidden to use it.
