While I was inside the memorial Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron yesterday, there was a shooting just outside in which a Palestinian gunman shot a Jewish woman and wounded her. We were ordered to shelter in place and were stuck inside the building for a few hours before being released. The gunman was not attested despite the fact that many Israeli soldiers were looking for him on rooftops and all over town.
Around noon today, I left Damascus Gate by train which oriented to a central station. Switched bus that took me to the shores of the Dead Sea where I am now enjoying my vacation.
After finishing dinner here, I got an email from R, a friend and Israel guide with who me I hung out a few days ago and I was warned about a possible terrorist attack.
According to her report, terrorists targeted the same train at the Damascus Gate this afternoon!
I couldn't find anything about these incidents on the Internet. Perhaps these are such normal occurrences in this country that it isn't worth even reporting on the news? Now I totally understand the necessity for the countless young Israeli soldiers who I've encountered every day on this trip to carry rifles.
