How 5G Will Change the Tech Industry

スレッド
How 5G Will Change the Tech ...
Over the last few years, mobile phone carriers have been rolling out 5G to customers. But the only thing customers really know about the new technology is that it guarantees speed. But 5G is much more than that and the technology behind it could be the key to more innovation in the future.

What is 5G?

a woman holding a phone up that says 5g

5G, at its simplest definition, is the 5th generation of wireless network technology. And it includes much more than just mobile devices. The last four generations used macro cell towers to transmit data over long distances. These cell towers generally span hundreds of feet height-wise and require expansive power outlaws. 5G technology, however, works a little differently. While it too uses macro cell towers, it also uses multiple micro cells to create an ultrahigh-speed network.

With the addition of several micro cells, 5G technology can do more than its predecessor, 4G LTE, ever could. An essential part of how 5G technology works is the act of slicing a physical network into multiple virtual ones. Then, each slice can be allocated for different things, depending on what the application, customer, or case needs.

5G Isn’t Just for Mobile Phones

a set of headphones, gaming controllers, a computer keyboard, some dispersed snacks, and a mug of coffee on a desk

5G allows speed to be up to 100x faster with minimal lag, which is the real draw for many end-users. With the faster speed 5G offers, users will be able to enjoy 4K video streams with very short buffering time, an improved VR experience, and highly responsive gameplay on devices. Additionally, it comes with lower latency, meaning that users will receive more immediate responses and a more consistent user experience overall.

5G technology has already started rolling out in not only the United States but also in other countries. While it’s mostly been publicized as a big change to the mobile phone industry, 5G technology spans multiple industries. In fact, it’ll affect every business that uses wireless technology. Other than increased speeds, 5G is also capable of handling much larger amounts of data compared to previous generations. Paired with the increased speed and lower latency levels, efficiency will greatly increase, for both businesses and potential customers.

PSPINC What’s New Newsletter Vol. 114 “Being Proactive in Business”

スレッド
PSPINC What’s N...
It’s important to be proactive in business. Rather than waiting for problems to arise, businesses should anticipate them and have a plan in place to solve them. Otherwise, you’ll be left scrambling to fix the problem. And in the process, you may lose customers as a result because they might lose trust in you as a company. To ensure this doesn’t happen, you’ll have to do your research to find potential problems. The best way to accomplish this is by testing everything constantly to make sure your new product and/or service works correctly. It’s exactly why PSPINC has a quality assurance (QA) department. And even if you think it’s great, you should still seek feedback from your employees. Especially because they too represent potential customers.

Additionally, you should test every part of the purchase funnel to identify places that could cause friction. For example, if your payment portal on your website isn’t working properly, customers will likely abandon the process altogether. Instead, they’ll look to your competitors to find a similar product. Today’s customers are smart and hold a lot of influence over the marketplace. If a potential customer tries to buy your product and finds the product problematic or the process too troublesome, they won’t hesitate to tell you. Or worse, they’ll tell others on social media. So, avoid this problem by being proactive before releasing a new product or service.

Ransomware

スレッド
Ransomware
There are a few ways to help prevent ransomware attacks.

1. Do not click any weird links in emails you don't recognize.
If you don't recognize the sender or you are not expecting someone to send you a link it is best to not click.

2. Have a good password policy
One of the easiest ways to access a system is a weak or stale password. A weak password is typically something common like "password" for your password or "123". A stale password is a password that has been in use for more than 3 months on average. It is best to change passwords on a quarterly or earlier schedule.

What is a secure password?

3. Have paid for anti-virus
Don't use the free versions of antivirus software. Paid for antivirus software comes with extra protection that everyone should be using to prevent attacks. Here at Pacific Software Publishing, we are an ESET reseller. ESET comes with ransomware protection and many other features to help secure your network. To find out how PSP can help protect your computers, give us a call or email us; our email and phone number are below.

With just these 3 steps you can help reduce your risk of being affected by ransomware.
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for choosing Pacific Software Publishing inc., your Dreamersi provider.
Technicians are standing by Monday - Friday 9am - 6pm (PST) ready to assist your technical issues. We can be reached at (425) 957-0808 or 1-800-232-3989

What is a Customer Journey?

スレッド
What is a Customer Journey?
If you’ve ever worked in sales or marketing, you've probably used or at least heard of a customer journey. While it sounds self-explanatory, fully building a customer journey out will help to create a stronger strategy moving forward. And from a business perspective, continually improving the customer’s experience will lead to not only an increase in sales but also in loyal customers. A customer journey outlines the steps a customer takes when encountering a company, including where they could potentially drop off.

A customer journey typically has five stages: awareness, consideration, acquisition, purchase, and loyalty. The awareness stage consists of how a customer hears about you. This can be through non-digital mediums like word-of-mouth or newspapers. But nowadays they probably found your company somewhere online like through a Google search or on social media. Then, there’s the consideration stage, where customers decide if they want to learn more about your company, your product, and/or your service. If they’re interested, they’ll move forward to the acquisition stage, where they’ll actively explore your company’s content and see how your competition compares.

The Acquisition Stage

a man sitting at a small cafe table with a laptop, notebooks, and phone on the table while the man's holding a to-go coffee cup in one hand and the other hand on his hand

The acquisition stage is arguably the most important step of the journey. At this point, your customer knows who you are, what you’re selling, and how you stack up against your competitors. But whether they purchase or not depends on multiple factors. From the company’s perspective, you want to make sure your brand and what you’re selling is as presentable as possible, the customer’s experience is smooth and simple, and your prices are at the same level as your competitors.

If your products and/or services are too expensive, the customer will just buy them elsewhere. If you’re not the cheapest option, you need to at least tell your customers why. For example, if your product is better because of the material or usability, make sure your customers know that. Because while price is an important factor, many will be willing to pay extra if they think it’s worth it.

Getting Customers to the Purchasing Stage

a woman holding multiple shopping bags while wearing sunglasses and looking at her phone

Once they decide they want to purchase, they enter the purchase stage, hence the name. This could be physically paying for it in a physical store or going through the payment portal on your site. After that is the post-purchase stage. In a brick-and-mortar store, this includes everything the customer encounters after paying. For example, they could see poster ads hung around the store. For digital consumers, this could be a “Your order is placed” page with their order number and details or a follow-up email encouraging customers to follow them on socials and shop from them again.

If your customer is frustrated or overwhelmed at any point in the process, they’ll probably end the journey there. As a business, that’s the last thing you want. You want your customer to go through the entire journey. Actually, what you really want is for customers to come back repeatedly. Beyond that, you want loyal customers to start recommending your products to convert even more people into customers. Or more loyal customers, preferably.

How Loyal Customers Play a Role

a woman holding a bag with a small flower bouquet inside as she leaves a store

For people who are actively loyal to your company to the point of recommending your products, they are what’s called brand evangelists. Regarding the customer journey, repeat customers no longer start from the beginning. Instead, they skip forward to the acquisition stage or straight to purchasing your product.

From a business perspective, it’s important to know how customers interact with your brand. The best way to figure that out is by creating a customer journey. With it, you can identify the steps potential customers make both before and after they purchase from you. Or more importantly, where you need to improve to prevent people from leaving before they get to the purchase stage. After all, you can’t fix a problem if you don’t where to start.

What is Augmented Reality (AR)?

スレッド
What is Augmented Reality (AR)?
We’ve all heard of virtual reality (VR), especially with conversations around the metaverse getting more frequent. But augmented reality (AR) is similar. Rather than immersing people in a fully virtual world, it incorporates objects from the real-world environment and enhances them. By mapping three-dimensional virtual objects into the real world, it blends virtual objects into the real world. It can trigger your other senses like touch, smell, and even taste, but most AR technology augments what you see and what you hear.

Types of AR Devices

someone holding a phone open to the Pokémon GO app

There are two types of AR devices: head-mounted displays and smartphones. The best examples of head-mounted AR devices right now are the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and the Magic Leap 2. Both Microsoft’s Hololens and Magic Leap One allow you to move holograms through touch and grasp while wearing the device on your head. The device itself looks very similar to VR devices, but instead of a full headset, it’s just AR glasses. Unfortunately, it has a similar setback as a VR headset: it’s a bulky device to put on your head. Additionally, people have mixed feelings about wearing AR glasses all day.

AR on smartphones or even a tablet is much simpler as well as cheaper. Almost everyone nowadays has a cell phone, which comes with a built-in camera and access to mobile apps. The biggest successes in AR technology, regarding it being on a smartphone, are the apps, Pokémon GO and the IKEA Place app. With the game Pokémon GO, users can see Pokémon in the real world through their phones when catching them. But despite the app’s major success, most users immediately turned off the AR features for one big reason: it drains your phone’s battery life. The IKEA Place app, however, allows users to see what furniture looks like in their homes. With interior design being a big part of why customers buy furniture, it’s a smart application. With the app, they have a better idea of how the piece of furniture will look in different rooms and it’ll look good with their existing furniture.

The Future of AR

someone using their phone

While AR technology’s gotten more popular over the past few years, there is still plenty to be done to improve it. Moving forward, the customer’s experience will evolve when engaging the senses, namely touching, hearing, and seeing will be improved. Especially when it comes to motion gesture technology, which is perhaps the most appealing aspect of AR technology right now. With the glasses, developers are working on widening the user’s view, so it’ll extend it to the rest of their peripheral vision.

While the glasses look futuristic, they’re bulky. The fact that it’s not a fully virtual reality makes customers hesitant when purchasing them. There’s also the added factor that AR glasses aren’t cheap. It’s not currently priced for customers, rather they’re for the military and medical practitioners, who use them for training and surgeries. While Pokémon GO’s use of AR technology leaves much to be desired, using AR on a mobile device has proven to be successful in other industries like retail. So, while AR glasses as a device don’t seem to be gaining any traction among customers, the smartphone application is where AR technology can grow further.
