How to Add a Website as a S...
Now that we’ve gone over how to add a website as a shortcut on your iPhone, maybe you’d like to add it onto your PC desktop as a shortcut. Especially if it’s a site you frequent when using your computer. That way, you won’t have to re-enter the URL every time you open an internet browser. Just like before, we’re going to use the login site for our password manager, Pass Wizard, as an example.

For PC Users using Chrome

  1. Go to the website using Chrome on your PC desktop. Again, we’re going to PassWizard.com/login/ as an example.

  2. pass wizard login url chrome pc screenshot

  3. Click the three dots in the top right corner. Select ‘More Tools’ and then select ‘Create Shortcut’.

  4. pass wizard more tools chrome pc screenshot

  5. Rename the shortcut to 'Pass Wizard' and click 'Create'.

  6. pass wizard rename shortcut chrome pc screenshot

  7. To customize the desktop icon, save the photo you want to use as an icon file (.ico). An easy way to convert an image file like a .png or .jpg, go to www.freeconvert.com/png-to-ico and choose the image file you’d like to convert. Then, download the icon file. For this example, we’ve used the vault icon from our Pass Wizard Pro plans.

  8. png to ico free converter screenshot

  9. Go back to your desktop background and right click on your newly created desktop icon and click on ‘Properties’. Then click on the ‘Change Icon…’ button and then the ‘Browse…’ button. Select the icon image you’d like to use. If you converted the image file with the above link, the file will likely be in your ‘Downloads’ folder. Click ‘Open’.

  10. pass wizard shortcut change icon screenshot

  11. Click on ‘OK’ in the ‘Change Icon’ pop up and again in the ‘Properties’ dialogue box. Then you’ll see the customized icon on your desktop background.

For PC Users Using Edge

  1. Go to the website using Edge on your PC desktop. Again, we’re going to PassWizard.com/login/ as an example.

  2. pass wizard login edge screenshot

  3. Click the three dots in the top right corner. Select ‘More Tools’ and then select ‘Pin to Start’.

  4. pass wizard more tools edge screenshot

  5. Then, click on ‘Start’ in the bottom left of your bottom navigation bar and you’ll see the shortcut at the top under ‘Recently added’. Drag and drop the icon from ‘Start’ to your desktop background. Then, you’ll see it as a desktop shortcut.

  6. pass wizard shortcut edge drag to desktop screenshot

  7. To customize the desktop icon, follow the same instructions from #4 from the Chrome instructions. Then, see the newly customized icon on your desktop background.

AES-256 Encryption: The Strongest Encryption Standard

スレッド
AES-256 Encryption: The Stro...
With cybercrime continually increasing, security measures tighten for products that store and manage sensitive customer information. When looking closer, you’ll see many of them boast the term “AES-256 encryption” in the description. AES-256 encryption, simply put, is a symmetrical encryption standard that secures sensitive information by scrambling it completely. It’s now become standard practice to use AES-256 encryption to secure personal data because of how secure it is.

To scramble data, it divides the data into blocks, replaces different bytes, shifts rows, and mixes columns. AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) refers to the encryption algorithm, while 256 refers to the key length size. It’s considered the gold standard in encryption because of how hard it is to crack. Even federal government entities like the National Security Agency (NSA) use AES-256 to encrypt sensitive government information.

How It’s Safer Than Alternatives

Unrecognizable Person in a Black Hoodie Typing

AES-256 encryption has a longer key length than other options, which makes it harder to crack. And possible key combinations only increase along with key size. To put this in perspective, a hacker would need to try out 2,256 different combinations of 78 digits to break through the encryption. So, with that in mind, it’s no surprise that it’s nearly impossible for successful brute attack attempts.

Examples of AES-256 in Use

Close-Up Photo of Smartphone

With AES-256 being the strongest encryption standard, many devices, applications, and networks use it to encrypt data. In fact, many modern computers already have AES instructions built into them, specifically those that use Intel or AMD processors. Because the purpose of applications like password managers and VPNs is to store and manage sensitive data, most of them today use AES-256 encryption. Our password manager, Pass Wizard, included.

With cybersecurity becoming increasingly important, we can only expect that security standards will improve in the coming years. But, for now, AES-256 encryption is the strongest encryption standard out there. And it’s why so many devices, apps, and networks continue to use it to encrypt data.

Pass Wizard Now Supports One-Time Password Authentication

Pass Wizard Now Supports On...

We’re pleased to announce that Pass Wizard now supports one-time password (OTP) authentication. On top of text message two-factor authentication (SMS 2FA), it’s now easier for you to add another layer of security using common authenticator apps to generate a new OTP every 30 seconds.

How to Enable OTP Authentication

otp authentication pass wizard interface

To enable OTP authentication in Pass Wizard:

  1. Log in to Pass Wizard
  2. Go to your settings page in the upper right corner
  3. Under General -> Multi-factor authentication, select Authenticator App option
  4. Connect your account to your choice of authenticator app by either scanning the QR code or manually entering the key. While Pass Wizard’s new OTP authentication should support all authenticator apps, we recommend:
  5. Enter the code displayed in your authenticator app to confirm the connection
  6. After you successfully connect your account, Pass Wizard will prompt you to enter the one-time password displayed in your authenticator app the next time you sign in.

What is Pass Wizard?

pass wizard login on laptop and authenticator app open on cell phone

Pass Wizard is a password management system designed and developed by PSPINC that allows you to store passwords securely. With the free account, you can store up to 30 passwords. If you upgrade to the paid Pro account, you can save an unlimited number of passwords and gain access to our group sharing features, which include sharing specific passwords with a group.

To safely protect your data, Pass Wizard uses a multi-factor authentication (MFA) system via SMS or OTP, designed with ultra-high security and encryption technology. We will continue to not only improve Pass Wizard’s easy functionality, but also its security measures. If you still haven’t signed up for Pass Wizard, sign up for free today!

3 Ways Businesses Can Protect Themselves Online

3 Ways Businesses Can Protec...

Cybercrime has only increased over the past few years. And the average cost of cybersecurity for businesses has also climbed. Cybersecurity, according to IBM, is the practice of protecting critical systems and sensitive information from digital attacks. For businesses, it’s important to have a sound strategy in place to keep your company and employees safe.

The pandemic has intensified our reliance on technology, making it easy for hackers to gain access to sensitive information like client and customer information. So, it only makes it that much more important for businesses to protect themselves. And that goes for all businesses, regardless of size or type. With the added challenge of new technology, businesses must adapt to keep themselves safe. Here are three ways you can keep your business safe online:

1. Keep Your Software Up to Date

person using macbook air

The simplest way for businesses, as well as individuals, to protect themselves online is by updating their software regularly. Not updating leaves users vulnerable to attacks and compromises their account information. Even though it’s easy, many people still choose not to do it. While devices already have built-in security features, it’s not enough. Cybercrime is constantly evolving and the only way for devices to keep up with them is through updates.

2. Use a Password Manager

woman wearing a hijab on a laptop with a phone on the desk nxt to her

To keep your account information safe, use a password manager. Many on the market have free accounts available, including ours. Pass Wizard makes it easy to not only store passwords securely but also to generate strong and unique passwords. Plus, managers can use Pass Wizard Pro to better manage shared passwords among employees securely.

3. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

someone using a smart phone

Two-factor authentication (2FA) confirms your identity through two different methods and keeps your accounts secure. It’s especially helpful when password managers give the option of 2FA, which is why Pass Wizard does. While there are many forms of 2FA, the most common are by email, mobile device, or both.

Social Media Security Concerns

スレッド
Social Media Security Concerns
With the influx of data over the past few years, it’s only become more widely available. With it, security concerns online have only amplified. While social media and the internet have been greatly beneficial in numerous ways, it’s also opened the door for hacking opportunities. Most internet users today know to take precautions like setting up a firewall, but it doesn’t prevent cyberattacks. The intimate atmosphere of social media makes it even easier for hacks to occur. Users are less likely to proceed with caution because people feel they’re among friends on social media.

Over-Sharing Information

a man taing a selfie of himself standing on a balcony that overlooks the ocean

Among friends, it can be very easy to share personal details. But many users are unaware they’re opening themselves up to online scams. But sometimes, users share their private information entirely by accident. For example, users sharing pictures of their home renovations may not realize they might be inadvertently sharing their home address. The general rule of thumb when posting on social media is not to publicize your email, phone number, or location.

Phishing Scams

two hands coding on a laptop with green text on the black laptop screen

Even though phishing scams are more associated with email, it's gotten big on social media too. And targeting people on social platforms is even easier for hackers. All they have to do is create a post tailored to users' interests and include a link. With so much personal information readily available, users will most likely click on it. This type of phishing scam is called spear phishing and can be very effective. Spear phishing can also happen after creating fake accounts. Social media users frequently accept friend requests from people they don’t know, making it easier for hackers. After the user accepts the friend request, scammers can send a link via a direct message and because you’re friends, many users will click on the link.

Staying Safe Online

a girl taking a selfie with a boy while they both holding up peace signs

However, it's one thing to be aware of these potential hacks but even better to take precautionary measures to prevent them. Apart from being wary of what you post online, you can also enable 2-factor authentication (2FA), a feature available on almost every mainstream social platform. 2FA requires you to answer a question or enter a code after entering your password. This extra signup step makes it harder for cybercriminals to access your account. And it’s why many password managers use it to secure your passwords, Pass Wizard included.

But even if you take all the necessary precautions, hacks can still happen on social media. Not just from individual hackers but also from big corporations as everything you share is public. And advertisers can sell, buy, and use your data, whether you realize it or not. So, while the friendly nature of social media is attractive, it invites plenty of security risks. However, we created our new social platform, DENREI, with cyber security in mind. Unlike traditional social platforms, your data is never sold or shared, making all the information you share private.
