I will be old enough to apply for Medicare Parts A & B soon, and today I had a face-to-face interview for it. There were many people waiting outside, but I had an appointment, so I didn't have to wait long. I met with the person, and he processed my Medicare application right away. It took less than 10 minutes and was completed. I should receive my Medicare card in a few weeks.

Los Angles Trip

I was booking my trip to Los Angeles in May using Chase Travel. I booked my flight and rental car through the platform. However, after completing the purchase, I realized that I was not flying to LAX but to Ontario International Airport. Unfortunately, my rental car pickup was still scheduled for LAX. I had to cancel the rental car reservation just minutes after making it. What a hassle!

I wish the travel site had recognized that I was flying to Ontario and suggested a rental car pickup location accordingly. Nevertheless, I must commend the Chase Travel team for being extremely helpful in resolving this issue.

This marks a 72% increase over the span of 8 years. It's debatable whether inflation caused the wage increase or if the wage increase led to inflation. Are you happy with 72% increase or were you better off 8 years ago. However, it's worth noting that simply raising minimum wages doesn't solve poverty.

Why does the United States consider tipping customary? Logically, if we always expect tips, why not increase the price of goods and services to incorporate them? Some business owners may argue that adding the tip makes the price appear higher. Still, I believe including the tip is more conscientious because the customer still ultimately pays the same amount. In the same vein, they also apply the sale tax afterward. I have always believed that retailers should factor the sales tax and tip into the price from the outset.

In the 1950s, the tip percentage made up about 10% of the bill, but in the 1970s and 1980s, the tip percentage rose to 15%. Today, tipping anywhere between 15% to 25% has become the norm, including Washington state, where the average tip is about 18% or more.

People deem tipping necessary because servers often only earn minimum wage or less, so they rely on tips to supplement their income. This is because the minimum wage doesn’t just account for the actual wage, it also includes tips. Therefore, many argue tips are essential for minimum-wage workers to earn a living. However, I’m afraid I have to disagree with this notion. If companies paid fair wages from the start,
tipping wouldn’t be necessary.

Many restaurants now also include tips for takeout orders. Amazon Fresh and other companies are also interested in adding a tip for delivery. While I’m not required to tip when purchasing items as an Amazon Prime member, it seems unnecessary to tip for Amazon Fresh orders.

Even if it were, prices are already high because of inflation, and I find it hard to justify tipping on top of that. While the U.S. is a great country, I don’t appreciate attempts to market products by making them appear inexpensive, with small tips. I sincerely hope they will transparently display the full cost one day.

If you don't know or have experience in accounting and taxation, you'll need to hire professionals and incur the associated expenses and time burdens. For many people, the uncertainty and hassle of these tasks are hurdles to starting a business.

However, there are many advantages to starting a business as well. For example, if you are a salaried employee, your salary doesn't significantly change based on how successful you or the company are. However, if you are successful in starting your own business, your compensation may increase based on your own efforts and achievements. Another great advantage is that, as an entrepreneur, you can self-realize your visions and ideas and pursue a free work style. Although becoming successful involves risks, the opportunities for personal growth and self-actualization are greater.

In addition, entrepreneurs can develop their businesses based on their own visions and principles, letting them operate based on their own beliefs. This may increase their influence and contribution to society. Starting a business is not an easy path, but the satisfaction and self-fulfillment that come from the process of challenge and growth are great.

I started my business when I was 27 years old. However, I didn't start my business with the vision you might imagine. Rather, I was driven by circumstances that forced me to start my own business. However, it doesn't mean that I didn't have a vision. At the time, my vision was more like a "hope" than a plan. I started the company with the hope that I could keep it going for three years, and if it wasn't working anymore after three years, then I would look into getting a different job.

But this company has now been around for 36 years. Every year, expenses go up, and there is pressure to make sales to pay the employees' salaries. Nevertheless, I am always grateful for the loyal customers and excellent employees who have kept the company going.

After Super Tuesday, Nikki Haley suspended her campaign for the Republican nomination for the 2024 Presidency. I don't think she posed any threat to Donald Trump. Even during her speech announcing her suspension, she didn't fully endorse Donald Trump. She gave her best effort, but in the end, it wasn't graceful. That is quite unfortunate in my opinion. It's evident that the 2024 presidential election will likely be a rematch of 2020.

I've heard that one-third of Americans believe the 2020 election was rigged. Considering the United States' position as a leading democracy, where the will of the people is paramount, this is disheartening to hear. I hope measures will be taken this time to reassure people that the election is conducted fairly.

Canon F-73P Handheld Scientific & Statistical Programmable Calculator

I bought this calculator back in 1983, right after graduating from college and joining a computer company. It's hard to believe, but this calculator has been with me for over 40 years now. Although I no longer perform scientific operations as I used to, I find myself frequently using its functions to convert Fahrenheit to Celsius, centimeters to inches, and kilograms to pounds. It's a testament to the longevity and reliability of this tool.
