First, let's describe the differences between a POP3 mailbox and an IMAP mailbox.

POP3

POP3 e-mail configuration is best for people who intend to use their e-mail from one computer. With POP3, all messages are typically downloaded from the server without a copy left behind. Once your message is removed from the server from one computer, you cannot access it from another computer.

IMAP

IMAP stores messages directly on the mail server, even after you've accessed your e-mail from your home computer. Since the mail stays on the server, you can access the same mailbox from any other Internet-connected computer. The only time that messages are removed from the server is when you delete it from the server. IMAP also allows you to create individual folders for mail (these folders also stay on the server) so that you can manage/organize your e-mail while it stays on the server.

If you are a frequent traveler and/or need to have access to your e-mail from multiple locations, IMAP is the better choice. It's also recommended if you use dial-up connections to the Internet because the messages that request are the only ones that are downloaded so that you can read them.

If you use only a single computer to access your mail, consider POP3 as a better alternative.

For most situations, we recommend IMAP.

Note that IMAP e-mail takes up more of your available storage on the server and this may quickly fill up the quota alloted for you. POP3 e-mail, once downloaded, will free up this space.

Your account can be configured as both an IMAP and POP3 account depending on how your software is configured.

Why do you need so many?

I was looking at DELL web site this morning because I received 15% discount coupon via email. I took a look at DELL web site and found out there are this many business laptop and notebook computers. I am sure each model is little different from the other but do you really need this many models?

Dell must be selling every and all PC manufacturers in China without much control. I do not know how I can decide one over the other.

Everyone who uses Macintosh could not understand why many PC experts do not recommend Macintosh. Well, the answer is very simple than you think. It is the money ... If you are a Mac user, there is not much the IT people can do to make money.

Is Mac better?

No, I did not say that. Mac is different. If you use your computer just what Mac can do (which is a lot), you will be better off with Mac than PC. It is very difficult, although it is possible, to screw up completely using Mac. You can screw up with PC much easier, because you are allowed to do more with PCs.

I personally use Mac because I do not develop programs any more. If I were developing programs, I would use PC. For PSPINC, it does not matter whether you are a PC or Mac user. We can help your web and email just as well.

I watched presentation by Steve Jobs at Apple conference today.
I am really impressed with their approach to a cloud computing. Unlike Google, Amazon or Microsoft, Apple's version of cloud computing is not based on the web interface. The cloud is just a backend for their application programs. Which makes it easier to understand and use. Actually the iCloud users have nothing new to learn when it becomes available.

aim writing this post using iPad. I use a smart phone to check my email. I have a laptop computer and desktop computer at my office.

I access email from all Rhodes devices. The only way to make sure mailbox is updated no matter which device you are using is IMAP. IMAP stores all email on the server instead of downloading them to your devices and delete them from the server. Even when you send email, sent email is stored on the SENT folder on the server, so all your devices can see it.
