トヨタクラウンには分かりにくい表示が2つあります。まず1つ目はオートマチックのシフトに書かれた「B」という文字です。この位置でシフトすると何が起こるのかが不明瞭です。マニュアルによれば、ギアを低く指定してエンジンブレーキなどに使用できるようですが、それならば「(L)」と表示されるべきでしょう。「(L)」はもちろん「Low（低速）」を意味します。

2つ目はダッシュボードにあるギザギザのボタンです。一見デフロスターのように見えますが、デフロスターはセンターコンソールに前後の窓のボタンがあるため、これはデフロスターボタンではありません。どうやら自動ワイパーの設定のようですが、ワイパーの絵が描かれておらず、しかもボタンにイルミネーションがないため、夜間はボタンの位置が見えません。何だかしょぼいですね。これでも本当にクラウンなのでしょうか。もう少し配慮が欲しいところです。

以前話したNorman Doorの概念を覚えていますか？これは使い勝手の悪いドアを指し、引いたり押したりするかが分かりにくいものです。この概念は認知科学者でありユーザビリティエンジニアのドン・ノーマンが著書「The Design of Everyday Things」で紹介したものです。Norman Doorは日常のオブジェクトにおいて分かりやすいデザインの重要性を強調し、ユーザーエクスペリエンスを向上させ、フラストレーションを減らすことが求められています。

The Toyota Crown has two confusing indicators. The first one is the letter "B" on the automatic shift. It's unclear what happens when shifting to this position. According to the manual, it seems to specify a lower gear for engine braking, but in that case, it should be labeled as "(L)" for "Low."

The second one is a jagged button on the dashboard. It initially looks like a defroster button, but since the defroster has separate buttons on the center console for the front and rear windows, this button seems to be related to automatic wipers. However, there's no wiper symbol, and the button lacks illumination, making it hard to see at night. It seems a bit lacking in consideration. Is this really fitting for a Crown? Some more thoughtfulness is desired here.

Speaking of the Norman Door concept we discussed earlier, it refers to poorly designed doors, specifically those where it's unclear whether to push or pull. This term comes from Don Norman, a cognitive scientist and usability engineer, who introduced the concept in his book "The Design of Everyday Things." Norman doors emphasize the importance of clear and intuitive design in everyday objects to enhance user experience and reduce frustration.
