My name is Kenichi Uchikura, President and CEO of Pacific Software Publishing, Inc. (or PSPinc). I am the person responsible for designing products and services as well as providing support and all of the background work to make everything happen. I created PSPinc back in 1987 and we have not gone public nor been bought out by any big businesses. We are a true independent software development and data center operation company.

Because we are independent, we can do things much faster than other companies. We can change direction in a matter of minutes. That means we can attempt some things so crazy that other companies may not even try them. Of course, because we try many things, we fail a lot more than others. We have never communicated that fact but I thought it may be fun to share some of our failures with you.

I hope you take this newsletter as your gateway to get to know myself and PSPinc. If you have any suggestions, questions, criticisms or occasional compliments - I would be happy to read each one of them and respond to you. Today is the very first introduction of this newsletter and I hope you will continue to provide me with a minute of your time to read it in the future. I promise I will try to entertain.

Update your Website's Copyright Date, Among Other Things

It’s a new year and most of us have a new set of goals. One business goal you should consider this year is giving your website an update. At the very least, make sure the copyright year is updated to 2020 on your homepage (usually in the footer).

As important as it is for your website’s content and graphics to be refreshed, it’s equally as important you keep up with the security upgrades to your servers and backend tools on programs such as WordPress. Not all content management systems have automatic updates, and your site can get infected without you knowing if you don’t keep up with security updates. Unfortunately, there is no perfect software protection and those open source programs such as WordPress are often the primary target of hackers.

When a hacker searches and finds vulnerability in old WordPress installs, they can hack the site and “inject” malicious code in the SQL Database used for WordPress. The hackers’ goal is to steal important data, so most commonly seen cyber-attacks involve the hacker redirecting links on your site to links on the hacker’s fake site. It’s hard for a business to know they’ve been cyber-attacked unless they have a trusted web hosting company or developer who will scan their data and maintain their latest WordPress security upgrades.

Even then, we advise customers to login to their content management systems and check for any security updates.

What are good strategies in regards to using satellite websites for SEO??

Creating multiple one page sites that link to your main website seems like a good idea for increasing the search ranking of that main site. However, it may backfire if you created those pages yourself.

What do I mean?

It appears as though search engines like Google can detect these artificial websites created just to link back to your main website. If you implement this approach, your main site may be blacklisted by Google and not show up in search results at all.

The overall strategy, however, is not too bad. Having many links to your website does increase your search engine ranking. You just have to do it organically.

Below are a few methods for increasing your search engine visibility organically by linking back to your website.

Create and send articles to news sites, blogs and social media sites.

Ask friends to link to your site and in exchange you will link to theirs. (This practice is called reciprocal linking.)

Ask people to review your business online.

Promote your satellite sites and social media.

Key is not to create any site just for the sake of creating more links.
