What is WebP?

WebP is an image format created by Google. It’s designed to make images smaller in file size without losing much quality, which helps websites load faster.

 How Did WebP Come About?

1. Creation: Google introduced WebP in 2010 to improve web performance by reducing image file sizes.
2. Technology: It’s based on the VP8 video codec technology, which Google acquired from a company called On2 Technologies.

 Benefits of WebP

1. Smaller Images: WebP images are smaller in size compared to JPEG and PNG, so web pages load faster and use less data.
2. Good Quality: Even though the file sizes are smaller, the image quality remains high.
3. Versatile: WebP supports different types of images, including those with transparency (like PNG) and animations (like GIF).

Overall, WebP helps make websites faster and more efficient by reducing the size of images without sacrificing quality.
