Every so often, I change the wallpaper on my computer or phone to something that inspires me or brings me peace. Today, I chose a photo I took at Katsuō-ji Temple (勝尾寺)—a place known not only for its beautiful setting but also for its powerful symbolism.

 

Located in the mountains of northern Osaka, Katsuō-ji is famous for its daruma dolls, which are believed to bring luck, success, and victory. Visitors come from all over Japan to pray for everything from personal goals and academic achievements to business success. What makes Katsuō-ji truly unique is the sheer number of daruma dolls scattered across the temple grounds. You’ll find them sitting quietly along stairways, tucked into corners, and lined up on moss-covered stone walls—each one left by someone who made a wish or gave thanks for one that came true.

 

When I look at this picture, I’m reminded of the quiet determination these daruma represent. The tradition is to paint in one eye when you set a goal, and only paint the other once you achieve it. It's a visual promise to yourself to never give up.

Since my kidney transplant on February 1st, I've been working from home, but I haven't been able to make it to the office very often. I'm truly grateful that everyone at the company has been handling their responsibilities so well — that's something I deeply appreciate. However, I haven't been able to start anything new… and that’s becoming a problem.

 

That said, with the shareholders' meeting and other important events scheduled this week, I’m hoping to make it into the office a few times.
