6月(つき)上旬(じょうじゅん)から中旬(ちゅうじゅん)にかけて10日間(にちかん)にわたって開催(かいさい)されるお祭(まつ)りです。イベントや屋台(やたい)が盛(も)りだくさんです。メインイベントの神幸祭(しんこうさい)は、江戸(えど)時代(じだい)の衣装(いしょう)を身(み)にまとった神職(しんしょく)が、神輿(みこし)とともに長(なが)い行列(ぎょうれつ)を作(つく)ります。

6 tsuki jōjun kara chūjun nikakete 10 nichikan niwatatte kaisaisareru o matsuri desu. ibento ya yatai ga moridakusan desu. mein ibento no Shinkōsai wa, Edo jidai no ishō o mi ni matotta shinshoku ga, mikoshi totomoni nagai gyōretsu o tsukurimasu.

This 10 day long festival begins early to mid June. There is lots of events and food stalls. The main event is Shinkosai which is a long procession of priests that wear Edo Period costumes with Mikoshi.

お粥(かゆ)は日本(にほん)の米飯(べいはん)の一種(いっしゅ)で、柔(やわ)らかく消化(しょうか)に良(よ)いのが特徴(とくちょう)です。乳幼児(にゅうようじ)や病人(びょうにん)に食(た)べさせることが多(おお)いです。

Okayu wa Nihon no beihan no isshu de, yawarakaku shōka ni yoi no ga tokuchōdesu. Nyūyōji ya byōnin ni tabe saseru koto ga ōidesu.

'Okayu' is a type of Japanese rice dish that is soft and easy to digest. It is often fed to infants and sick people.

The Popularity of Demon Slayer Overseas

You may remember that Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train surpassed 40 billion yen in box-office revenue in 2020. Unsurprisingly, Japan isn’t the only place where it’s broadcasted. The movie’s been broadcasted in more than 40 countries around the world, including the United States and Taiwan. And Demon Slayer not only became popular in Japan, but also in other many other countries around the world.

The story follows the main character, Tanjirô, during the Taisho era (1912-1926) after he loses his family to demons. Then, he meets a member of Kitsatsu-tai, an organization, and becomes a demon slayer to figure out a way to turn his sister, a demon, back into human form. The movie focuses on rumors of demons being around after Tanjirô becomes a demon slayer.

In addition to the interesting plot and appealing characters, the film’s gained international attention for various aspects. Namely the kimono motif of the costumes and the special fighting moves using blades.

1609年(ねん)から続(つづ)く酒田(さかた)まつりは、3日間(にちかん)にわたって開催(かいさい)されます。巨大(きょだい)な獅子(しし)の頭(あたま)を持(も)つ山車(だし)や、車輪(しゃりん)のついたユニークな山車(だし)などが見(み)どころです。

1609 nen kara tsuzuku Sakata matsuri wa, 3 nichikan niwatatte kaisaisaremasu. kyodaina shishi no atama o motsu dashi ya, sharin no tsuita yuni-kuna dashi nado ga midokoro desu.

The Sakata festival has been around since 1609 and is a three-day event. Most notable attractions are the giant lion head floats and unique wheeled floats.

ドラゴンボールやドラえもんをはじめとする、『漫画(まんが)』や『アニメ』は日本(にほん)のポップカルチャーの代表(だいひょう)として、国(くに)を超(こ)え、海外(かいがい)でも愛(あい)されるものとなりました。弊社(へいしゃ)本社(ほんしゃ)のあるワシントン州(しゅう)では、先日(せんじつ)2年(ねん)ぶりにSakura-Con というアニメイベントが開催(かいさい)され、2万(まん)人(にん)以上(いじょう)の方(かた)が参加(さんか)されたそうです。

Sakura-Con: Washington State’s Largest Anime Event

While anime and manga are big proponents of Japanese pop culture, their popularity has expanded to the states. Particularly with titles like Dragon Ball Z and Doraemon. Recently, an anime event called Sakura-con, held in Washington State, where our headquarters is located, returned for the first time in two years. And more than 20,000 people attended the event.

The price of admission ranged between $50 to $80, and people could either buy tickets in advance or on-site. From Friday to Sunday, visitors could attend a variety of events during the day and night. Events included anime-themed concerts, panels with popular voice actors, and anime merchandise booths. On the event days, you'll also see many cosplayers around town as many people also participate by dressing up as their favorite characters.

日本(にっぽん)では「高齢化(こうれいか)」という人口(じんこう)の平均(へいきん)年齢(ねんれい)が増加(ぞうか)している現象(げんしょう)が現在(げんざい)でも問題(もんだい)になっています。６０代(だい)か以上(いじょう)の人(ひと)は日本(にっぽん)全国(ぜんこく)の人口(じんこう)の３割(わり)に近(ちか)づいています。

Nihonde wa `kōrei-ka' to iu jinkō no heikin nenrei ga zōka shite iru genshō ga genzai demo mondai ni natte imasu. 60-Dai ka ijō no hito wa nipponzenkoku no jinkō no 3-wari ni chikadzuite imasu.

The phenomenon of "aging" in Japan, the increase in the average age of the population, is still a problem today; people in their 60s or older now account for close to 30% of the nation's population.

金箔(きんぱく)とは、金(きん)をおよそ10,000 分(ぶん)の1 ミリの薄(うす)さにまで打(う)ち延(の)ばしたものです。歴史(れきし)は古(ふる)く、7世紀(せいき)末(まつ)頃(ごろ)から存在(そんざい)を確認(かくにん)されており、現在(げんざい)、98% ～99% の金箔(きんぱく)は金沢(かなざわ)で(石川県(いしかわけん)) 生産(せいさん)されているそうです。使用(しよう)方法(ほうほう)は様々(さまざま)で、文化財(ぶんかざい)の修繕(しゅうぜん)や伝統(でんとう)工芸(こうげい)品(ひん)だけでなく、食(た)べ物(もの)や化粧品(けしょうひん)にも使用(しよう)されています。値段(ねだん)は販売(はんばい)元(もと)によって異(こと)なりますが、食用(しょくよう)に商品(しょうひん)化(か)されたものは0.05g 千円(えん)程度(ていど)で購入(こうにゅう)可能(かのう)です。

生産(せいさん)地(ち)の金沢(かなざわ)では、表面(ひょうめん)に金箔(きんぱく)を施(ほどこ)したカステラやお料理(りょうり)などが観光客(かんこうきゃく)に人気(にんき)です。見(み)た目(め)が華(はな)やかになりますので、いつもの料理(りょうり)を豪華(ごうか)に演出(えんしゅつ)されたい方(かた)などにもおすすめです。

Gold Leaf

Gold leaf has a long history and dates back to the end of the seventh century. Today, about 98 to 99% is produced in Kanazawa (in the Ishikawa Prefecture). To make gold leaf, professionals hammer gold into a thin sheet that is about 1/10,000 millimeters thick.

Other than just repairing cultural assets and traditional crafts, people can use gold leaf in a variety of ways. Including cosmetics and food consumption. While the price can vary depending on the seller, those commercialized for food cost about $1,000 yen for 0.05 grams.

In Kanazawa, sponge cakes and other dishes with gold leaf on top are popular among tourists. Because it makes food look gorgeous, it’s recommended for those who want to add a luxurious touch to their dishes.
