Tokyo Station - Kanda - Akihabara - Okachimachi - Ueno, and then Uguisudani - Nippori - Nishi Nippori - Tabata - Magome - Sugamo - Otsuka, the Yamanote Line continues. The area around these stations is more residential than tourist-driven. Also, you won't find many visitors, especially from overseas, but if you want to see how the people of Tokyo live, I think it is fun to walk around these stations. There are historical shrines, temples, and unexpected markets, so you won't be disappointed if you get off the train.
After these stations, the next town you will come across is Ikebukuro. In Ikebukuro, there is a 60-story skyscraper called Sunshine 60, and the surrounding area is called Sunshine City, where you can find many facilities, one example being an aquarium. The area around Ikebukuro station is always crowded with many people. Ikebukuro is one of the largest entertainment districts in Japan after Shinjuku and Shibuya, and many stores stay open late into the night.
In addition, there are many hotels in Ikebukuro, which seem to be a little cheaper than other central Tokyo hotels. In terms of transportation, besides the JR Yamanote Line, Ikebukuro has stations on the JR Saikyo Line, JR Shonan Shinjuku Line, Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line, Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line, Seibu Ikebukuro Line, and Tobu Tojo Line, making it convenient to travel around Tokyo.
There is always something new to see and do in Ikebukuro, and I think it would be fun to use it as a hub for your next trip to Japan.
