Megumi kitchen staff served Japanese local dish, “Ise-Udon” for the school lunch today. Ise-udon is a local dish from Mie prefecture and eaten with a little amount of soup. Children loved this udon dish for the school lunch after playing outside this morning
To celebrate Girl's Day (3/3), our kitchen staff prepared special lunch on Friday, March 2.
Chirasizushi, Kabocha croquette, and strawberry panna cotta. Both boys and girls enjoyed Hinamatsuri lunch.
For the first time last month, we had the opportunity to do a special education program where the Seattle Fire Department visited the children to talk about fire safety. The children all listened intently and asked questions like “How much oxygen is in the air tank?” showing their interest and intelligence. They were also given the opportunity to check out the fire truck and equipment up close. Everyone had a great time and the children were able to create a lasting memory from this experience!
Megumi’s morning kindergarten class participated in Read Across America the week of February 27. On Friday, we celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with a pajama party to finish off the week. We brought in blankets, pillows, stuffed animals and our Dr. Seuss books to read.
Today's school lunch was Kiritanpo-jiru, chicken and winter root vegetable soup with rice cake, local dish from Akita Area. This very nutritious soup made our body and heart very warm.
In this month, we are serving noppei-jiru, chicken and winter root vegitable soup, from Niigata area. They get great deal of snow in winter. Even, the snows reach the top of roofs sometimes. Then the snow melt in spring, and they grow delicious rice and vegetables with the water from the snow. In this soup, there are many kinds of vegetables such as taro, lotus roots, gobo, and carrots. The soup makes you warm and healthy.
We are excited to inform you that we have new lights in the parking lot in Bellevue Megumi. The new lights are not only brighter but also more energy efficient than the old lights we had before.
I just wanted to share with you Megumi's lunch this week. In this lasagna, Sinich, onions, celory, zucchinis, and peppers with tamato sauce made by kitchen staff are inside. Kids love them!!!
Today Seattle Megumi had a special guest for Zo/Panda class activity.
He is sushi chef and he explained about how to make Kappa (cucumber) roll. He demonstrated making Kappa-roll and all kids were very interested in how to make them.
Children were enjoyed making their Kappa-roll on their own a lot!
Did you have a good time over winter break?
The first week of this month, we served osechi-ryori, Japanese New Year's dishes for a week. Children enjoyed four kinds (chikuzenni, apple and sweet potato puree, ozouni soup, benas and fish cake) of osechi dishes.
