What lessons from your first job do you still use today?

This question was asked to other members on the emarketing Association network I am a member of on LinkedIn.

Many of the answers are worth sharing

1) Smile, whether in person, on the phone or in writing, customers can feel positive energy
2) Remember who is paying the bill and treat them well, especially if you want them to come back 

3) Repeat business is always easier than trying to get new customers 

4) Don’t fight with the customer; you will only lose. 

5) No one is irreplaceable, neither you as an employee or your customer’s business
6) Keep it simple
7) Listen first, talk much later
8) There are no problems, only opportunities
9) Work within your political system - stepping on toes is a sure way to make enemies.
10) never complain about doing the work you applied to do
11)Never bring up a problem, unless you have a (possible) solution to it.
12) Listen before you speak
13) Never lose your temper.
14) Always show up on time.
15) Be organized.
16) Get along with everyone in the office
17) Plan the work, work the plan
18) Keep your personal life outside of work
19) Clean as you go
20) Quality comes first
