今晩の夕焼けも綺麗でした。
去年の今頃に見た夕焼けと同様のようですが、
観測者側の感情はだいぶ異なります。
昨年は3月の下旬からワシントン州は3カ月間の完全ロックダウンとなり、
学校はもちろん全ての対面営業が禁止されていたのです。
「いつまで続くんだ〜
干上がってしまうぞなぁ〜」
悶々と絶望した気持ちに襲われながらも
いつかあける夜は来るはずだ、なんて夕日を見ながら
自分に言い聞かせてました。
その頃利用したフェリーには
ほんの数台しか同船してる車もなく寂しいものでしたが、
今日は数百台がそのお腹に詰まっていてほぼ満載状態。
その後、
いつもの場所から湖を眺めていると、
オレンジ色のブイが湖面の向こうに小さく見えます。
それがだんだんと近づき私の目の前を通り過ぎる頃、
クロールで泳いでいる人が牽引している衝突防止用の目印の浮き輪
であることがわかりました。
いったいこの人は湖のど真ん中をすでに何キロ泳いでいるのだろう？
1ストロークで進める距離はほんのわずかだし
彼のいる湖の真ん中から遠く離れた岸までたどり着けるなんて
夢のように思えるはず。
たといわずかであっても
その時にできる小さなことに忠実なら
やがてゴールにたどり着けるんですね。
今日も人々との出会いから
暗いコロナ禍に明るい兆しが差しているように感じました。

I could see a small orange buoy across the lake.
As it gets closer and closer,
when it passed in front of me, I realized that it was an anti-collision landmark float towed by a crawler.
How many kilometers had this person already swum in the middle of the lake?
He can only go short distance in one stroke.
It must seem like a dream to reach the shore so far away from the middle of the lake.
Even if it's only a little, if you are faithful to the little things you can do at the time, you will eventually reach your goal.
