Milk Bottles, Milk Glass

Milk Bottles, Milk Glass
I found some more bottles. The ones at the back are milk (or drinking yoghurt?) bottles. The two at the front are maybe for cream or lotion. I learned that this kind of white glass is called 'milk glass'. I didn`t know that. On the left is some kind of ceramic insulator.

Vocabulary:
Lost and Found Office

Old Spoon

Old Spoon
On Monday I went bottle digging in Sekigahara. I found a lot of old cans, & some new bottles, but no old bottles. I was disappointed. However, I found this interesting old aluminium spoon. The logo is for Meiji Company. I think it`s a measuring spoon for powdered milk.

Vocabulary
- aluminium “アルミニアム” (UK, Australia) = aluminum “アルーミナム” (US)

Oh My God Medicine

Oh My God Medicine
While I was cycling in Ikeda (north of Ogaki) I found these bottles and shards (ガラス片) by the road. The writing on the brown shards says 'トヤマ', '廣貫堂' & '神薬’ (God Medicine?). I think the others are medicine bottles too, except for the short, clear one. There`s nothing written on it, but I think it`s Yakult (drinking yoghurt).

Grammar
『__』と書いてあります = What does this say? It says “___” (“What is written...? '__' is written...”

Japanese Umbrella Exhibition

Japanese Umbrella Exhibition
I went to an exhibition of Japanese umbrellas at the Gifu City History Museum (until Sunday, May 22: https://www.rekihaku.gifu.gifu.jp/exhibition/event/gifu-wagasa2022/). I like Japanese traditional umbrellas - they`re really stylish.

I went to a similar exhibition of traditional umbrellas in Thailand. We could also see the process of making the umbrellas. However, at first I thought it was a process of destroying & recycling umbrellas. Then I realized I had started in the wrong place and I was going the wrong way around the display. lol. Oops.

Vocabulary:
- lol (internet slang) = Laugh Out Loud = 笑

Succulent Flower
My succulent (多肉植物) plant is flowering now. The flowers are small, but pretty. I read online that if you cut the flower stem (茎, くき) and plant it, it will grow into a new succulent plant. Sounds easy - I might try it.

Vocabulary

2001: A Space Odyssey
Recently my kids watched the movies Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and Toy Story 2. I was surprised that they both contained references to the famous 1968 movie, 2001: A Space Odyssey, so I said to my kids, “Let`s watch it – it`s interesting.” My sons liked it, but my daughter was bored & confused.
