Long Way to Japan

I am traveling to Japan starting at evening of 10/31. I have never flown Air China to Japan via Beijing. It is going to be 26 hour trip sttopping over in Los Angeles and Beijing before arriving in Kansai.

Traveling Tip - Medicine

When you travel to Japan, something are cheap and some are expensive. Pain killers like Buffering, Tylenol and Advil are very expensive compare to the US. So, when you travel to Japan, bring some of the common medicines with you.

There are some medications that are legal in the US but may not be so in Japan. So be careful what you bring.

Two of the oldest companies which are still in business now

Did you know two of the oldest businesses (still in business now) are in Japan. Seriously, they are over 1,400 and 1,300 years old respectively.

Founded: 578 AD

Japanese construction company Kongo Gumi 金剛組 was the world's oldest continuously operating independent company until it was absorbed as a subsidiary of another larger construction company in 2006.

Ramen is not an expensive food.

Negi Ramen
This picture is few years old ... It is in Asakusa, Tokyo
290 yen is an old price.
Here in the US, we often spend $10+ for a bowl of ramen. Plus tip and tax makes it $12 ~ $14. Of cause you can find some expensive ramen in Japan, but ramen in general are considered cheap and fast.

Some of the places I go, a bowl of Ramen starts 350 yen ... many places sell their base ramen for 500 yen.

You cannot find huge meals like in the USA in Japan. That might be one of the reasons people in Japan in general are smaller than the people in the US. In addition, people rely on the public transportation and do o drive as much in the cities in Japan. That contribute to more expertise.
